Re: Sony 300 EBook Light

What's the battery life, say for one hour reading per night?
Any ideas?

The battery life for what? The 300 cover / light from Sony?

I've had mine for about 1 1/2 months now. Haven't used the light on a daily basis and couldn't tell you how many hours total, but it was used on an all night flight for a few hours, night drive in car for a few hours, about 3 weeks worth reading maybe an hour a night, and I'm still on the original AAA battery it came with. I keep waiting for it to die and even packed spare batteries.

The cover is a bit bulky, but I've been very pleased with it and am glad I got it. I just leave the case off if I take it with me during the day.

Hey call me cheap ( I prefer frugal ).But I get book lights from the dollar store. Whenever I visit I check to see what new types of booklights they have. I've had a couple over 6 months now and just replace the batteries as needed (also from the dollar store)

Someone mentioned in another discussion they used a Head Lamp...you can get them at places like Harbor Freight. They're great for hands free use anytime, not just reading.

(this is the main reason I got the 700...I read in low light/no light way more than I read in high light conditions. For me the extra cost of my 700 was worth it)

I tried the case/light combo, and it was just too dim for me. The camping "headlight" is a good idea, works great but can look a bit odd in public but at home it's good.

I picked up a "Pathway lights: Multi-pose Brightbook" at Target. I notice it is not available at the Target site, but only at the stores in the book department. It has 4 leds, two light levels and was only $8.99. It clips on the case with ease, but would not be able to clip on the 300 itself. It works perfect. The low setting is all I need, and it is twice as bright as the high setting on the Sony one. I use rechargeable AAA batts in it....

Thank you so much. I read your post yesterday morning, but didn't remember the product name or the store. I mis-remembered it as in Barnes and Noble, and found it there by price ($9.95, I think). By dumb luck, it was the exact same model. It's great! And tiny when folded, about the size of the smallest flip cellphone.

I have the new cover for the 600 with light made for the PRS-600, and that is dim and ungainly to position compared to this clip light. And my other three booklights are very dim compared to this one *at its low setting*!

The clip is only like a paper clip, not spring loaded. Maybe not as durable, nor able to clip on thicker things, but slim for clipping on the back cover without pushing out the reader towards you. The head even swivels left and right, so it is adjustable in two perpendicular planes. This might perhaps be useful for paper book reading: just swivel for reading the opposite page.

Thanks again! Though I haven't tried all the other recommended booklights, I can't see how they could be better, at least for what I want in a booklight. And at that price, what a steal.

I ended up just getting the Sony cover w/ light. It does add to the width, but I like the all in one aspect of it and the light seems to work well. It has two brightness settings and is brighter than I thought it would be. I like it and would purchase it again. The cover is nice as well.

@jj2me - Glad it worked out for you I also am still very pleased with the light, and from what I have seen it is the brighter lights out there, not just in its price range.

I agree the clip seems rather fragile, but I have had zero problems so far. And even if at some point I loose it, drop it...etc... it's not but a few dollars to replace.

Have You Heard of the M-Edge

I just got a Sony 300 for Christmas and have been looking for toys for it. LOL I came across a company called M Edge and they make nice covers and lights for all models of ereaders. Have you heard of them at all?

I've been tempted to buy one but haven't decided yet. I'm waiting for better color options for the cases. I do like the look of their light though. I'm using my Mighty Brite booklight for now but may get the M Edge stuff one day.

I too got a chuckle out of the flashlight in the mouth suggestion. I actually did LOL.

The headlamp isn't a bad idea but you'll blind someone with it when you look up at them.
