Also, if I just finish reading and turn off the machine, the other kindle won't recognize the last page on another.
I called Amazon and nobody knew what I was talking about and when I emailed the customer service, they told me that I need to do 'sync' function before I turn off one kindle.
I'm just so confused right now. Does anyone have any solution?
Thanks!

I have had the exact same experience. I use a kindle 2 and an iphone. The Kindle doesn't sync (in either direction) unless I tell it to do so manually. I have automatic syncing turned on at manageyourkindle like I'm supposed to. The manual seems to say this should work. But I talked to customer support this morning and they said my behavior was normal and that manual syncing was required.
