Crossover looks interesting, I'd never heard of it until now. I see they also have a solution in beta for running windows software under chromeOS.

Update added in case it's helpful.
The Calibre e-reader display problem goes away if the Win10 guest VM has 'Enable 3D acceleration' disabled. That's with the VBoxSVGA graphics adaptor. |

And you wouldn't have to do that if you actually ran Windows 10 without a VM. Run Linux in the VM and Windows 10 normally.
