I apologize again, I should have done my due diligence. I found where Amazon has a chart comparing all the Fire models, and it looks to me that the HD7 would be what I'm looking for. At $139 for the one with special offers, that seems a pretty good deal.
I can't quite envision how the special offers work as screensavers, but assume once you turn it on, you can quickly get to a book, yes? |

My real disappointment is the fact many of my purchased Amazon apps and games will not work on the HD6 and won't even show up in the cloud. I did find tune in radio pro listed, but they wanted me to buy it again for $9.99 which is not gonna happen. Need to find the easiest way to copy the apk to the hd 6. None of the angry birds except star wars, esfile explorer, and most others I use will not even show up in my cloud list. May end up returning it to stay with my Galaxy 7 Plus which I still think is the best out there.

Black Friday is just around the corner and I was able to get a 1st gen 16GB Fire HD for $100 last year. If you're not in a hurry, there might be some deals on the HDs or the HDX. |

Yes; I don't even notice what ad is appearing. I turn my HD 7 on, the ad screen saver appears, I swipe to unlock and the ad is gone. You'll never see another ad until you repeat the process.

It's no big deal, you just swipe to unlock your tablet and that is the end of it. I like the ads. No more static lock screens and many of the ads are useful or at least attractive. |

Ads have yet to show up on my Fire 6. I'm not complaining!
The new HD 7 is good, I'm sure. It's faster than the previous HD tablets. I find it noticeably faster. The 6" and 7" are the same in that respect. That speed increase is one reason why, the day these were announced, I put my 2013 Fire HD up for sale. Now that I have my 6" in hand, love it. Have to get my daughters one for Christmas. One of them was whining just this morning, "You spend all the money on yourself, you have so many readers and tablets....blah, blah.." (Heard that from daddy, no doubt!) I said to her, "What do you want? What do you not have that you need?" Turns out she missed the Kindle Fire that I sold, so I let her know quite clearly I was waiting for a sale. Of course they can use my 2012 Fire HD running n2a KitKat any time they want. They mainly stick with their Nook HD tablets, though! I hardly saw them use the 2013 Fire HD! So, sale or no sale, I'll be getting them the new Fire HD. My older daughter (age 11) says the 6" will not be too small, so that's good, we can swap accessories ![]() |

Thanks for the info. That is no problem with the Offers if it is that easy.
I wonder if you don't leave the wifi turned on, if they appear at all. |

So far I am loving my HD 6, I have been reading, listening to music and watching videos on it for about two weeks. About the only thing I do not like on it is the Cloud Collections. It has this annoying habit when it is turned on of removing all collections and rebuilding them from scratch. And with an extensive library of books, audibles and collections like I have my device can be unusable for 10-15 minutes. Quite annoying! If anything than Amazon should have it only change those collections which have changed since the last time it synced or updated when the device is idle. Once they are rebuilt scrolling through them is much faster and smoother than they are on the android device. Though I would say the Paperwhite, the iOS and then the android has the most user friendly environment. At least for me they do. It has gotten so annoying that I do not use the collection option anymore because it is becoming a hindrance, which pisses me off because I wanted this feature so that I could have more books on my Fire ready for me to read. But reading on it is nice, I have not had to adjust the fonts or screen colors yet because it is so comfortable for me as it.

Both my kids have the 8.9 hd. They are wanting to upgrade to the 4th generation kindle this year. We decided that once they have 2/3 of the cost saved we will talk about upgrading them. They are 8 amd 10 so it will be a good while.

The ONLY time that there is a generic lock screen for me is the first time that I boot up my Kindle Fire HDX 7" for the day. But then it reverts to the ads. |

I was surprised that I don't find the special offer ads a bother at all on my HDX; there have been some that I've taken advantage of

I've never understood why people don't want them. The ads only appear on the lock screen and disappear as soon as you swipe it open.

Probably because we've all been burned by apps that have ads popping up during their main use, that we've gotten used to doing whatever is necessary to get rid of them right from the start.
