Where can one download kobo-update-2.9.0.zip?

Okay. I realize that. What I am asking is, some people have reported once getting there Aura's that they have to do an update. What I am wondering is, how come no one has grabbed the URL of the download and shared?

That may be, because no one is interested in a software, that will probably only work on the Aura device. Not on the Aura HD, not on the Glo or the Mini.

When you buy a new Aura, the device will update itself. So what's the use of a f/w link, which will lead to a software, no one except new Aura users can take advantage of?

I think you will find that its very unlikely the Aura firmware will be radically different then the Aura HD. Its most likely that the firmware will be the same at least for these two devices. That said we will have to wait to see what the good folks at kobo have done. The logic behind their motives tends to be rather elusive for most of the real world so time will tell.

Actually given how different the hardware is between the two I'd be surprised to learn they were similar. There is after all multitouch gestures, new screen capabilities etc. The aura seems to represent a next generation product whereas the hd was simply the best kobo could do within the framework of what the ereader was a year ago.

You could be absolutely right, Jack. Anyhow, at this point no one knows, if the firmware 2.9 will work on the Aura HD or if it will brick the device. ... unless Freekobo would give it a try.

True words! Well, in my country we still have to wait for a few weeks, before the new Aura will be released. So I will patiently wait for new insights.

Trying to use the 2.9.0 firmware on an Aura HD as downloaded for the Aura did not work. As mentioned elsewhere, I may try just sideloading the KoboRoot.tgz file but not until I have more time to play.

Check the Developer's Corner. Notice the number of people asking for uSD card images. Common excuse is sideloaded the wrong firmware image. Given my experience with the firmware I downloaded that did not work on my Aura HD, I can't help but remember Fredric Brown's short story "The Weapon".

As I said, it did not work. If it had worked, I would have no issue sharing the URL -- I've done it often enough with other firmware releases. I was one of the people who tested the older Touches and the 2.8.1 firmware release and posted that this combination worked.

As it is, I feel that making public an URL for a firmware update that does not work is unacceptable behaviour. If I manage to make it work, that's when posting the URL would be appropriate.

I see. I guess your the only one with knowledge on how to possibly make it work. Like I said. I guess this is not a sharing community...I feel not sharing new info is unacceptable behavior...at the very least the Direct Links to Kobo Firmware should be updated for Developer's use. If people ignore the warning in big red letters then that's their fault, no need for you to feel guilty, but hey, but what do I know.

As far as I have been able to determine NO ONE has posted the URL for the new firmware.

If you have a new Aura, please determine the URL and share it with us.

As soon as anyone posts the URL, and I confirm it, I'll add it to the Direct Links thread.

On another subject, DNSB has spent a fair amount of time on this forum helping people and sharing information. I had a check back through your post history, and you seem to be demanding things more often than you are providing any kind of information.

Just because someone managed to save the firmware file does not mean that they have the URL for downloading it.
