Ads & Special Offers

First off, I want to state right up front that I do not own a Kobo. I do own a Kindle 4SO, or whatever it's called. I have been keeping up with Kobo since I may want a reader in the future to read epub files.

To tell you the honest truth, I hardly notice the ads on my Kindle. If I'm into a book and turn it on, it seems to open up right where I left off. After I finish a book, it does go to the screen saves ad, but I always turn it on and press the Home button, so I hardly see the ad. After a month or so and having read 4 or 5 books, I can't remember any specific ad. At first I did check out a few, but they seemed to be aimed at women so I skipped over them. I guess more women than men buy Kindles.

There is a small, 3/4" ad at the bottom of the home page-I just checked. I have not noticed even one ad there. I'm always looking for my next book, so I don't get down that far. It is so unobtrusive that I had to turn mine on and go to the home page to check before answering here. of course, the next thing we could see is ads at the end of every chapter.

As for the savings, any discount amount is better than no amount to me. I don't really care what's on the screen saver. I can't speak for Kobo, but I would bet that it is very likely to be similar to the Kindle ads. If you don't like the ads, you pay your money and make your choice as I did. In my opinion, it is not, on my machine, even a small problem. Insignificant would be my rating.
