Looks like this is the case. I tried again using your original substitutions. The results were identical so it would seem that Calibre reads the new para beginning as the end of the previous para.

Not that it matters now but he had opening and closing <br> tags
<br class="calibre1"></br> which is valid but you are right <br /> is a self closing tag. @jackie_w I believe calibre incorporates tidy html to clean up code just like Sigil. If he did his editing in Sigil under code view he would have seen how it was cleaned immediately after making the very awkward changes. |
