I sent a PM to Kiwidude and told him of my changes and your suggested change.

For now, the versions I've posted work with calibre 8.12 and if Kiwidude wants to make the changes then he can and then replace my changes with his. That (IMHO) is the best way to do it.

My recompile of calibre 8.12 to use MSVCP 1.44.35207 to test the issue I'm seeing with calibre's Open With and a Sigil version using Qt 6.9.2 is useful for my test purposes but I'm not about to distribute the result. I regard your plugin modifications much the same way though they should not cause any issues other the current issue which is not that easy to trigger.

I looked at the parse_html documentation and examples and it's a lot more work than I am able or willing to do. Not to mention the need to test those changes.

parse_html is fine for html, RECOVER_PARSER is for xml. Kovid has included now in his message which function you can use for xml.
