				Possible wifi / bluetooth solution?

Yesterday night I found a nice product Eye Fi, which is a merge of memory and Wifi module in SDHC form factor. Costs about 50 usd / 60 EUR, available in Europe on German Amazon/Ebay. There are other companies suggesting pure WLAN SD solutions, the keyword is SDIO. Too bad there's no memory+wifi in microSD, only pure WLAN inside microSD - Spectec SDW-823. Otherwise I'd buy one for my DR800S. Same SDIO bluetooth is available for 20 usd. Do not know if there's a solution memory+bluetooth. Regarding drivers a bluetooth device should "just work", linux has a nice support for this. With wifi "it depends", hopefully the chipset is supported. edit: hmm, 4 days ago the guys put on Sourceforge a patch for SDIO on 2.6.24 kernel. Even more interesting now .. I have check them 2 years ago. AFSIK Eye-Fi has 2-3 models, It works with any SDIO but its configuration will transfer only picture or video files (new model) to your PC or web storage. |

Ok, found one card cleanly combining SD memory and wifi - Sandisk Connect 256Mb. Don't know if there's room to plug it into DR1000 (can anyone please post a picture of the slot location?). And 256 Mb is a bit too small .. Anyways, doing further research.

It's a great idea, but an SD with wifi-funtionality (even if it can provide a steady network connection for surfing) will need drivers for the software as well. I don't deem it as an objective that could be reached... 'cause after the work on the driver, there'll be the need for a compatible browser etc. But the idea on itself would of course be great. I'd buy one if it were released as a accesorie for the DR1000 (after the new start-up) |

Eye-Fi has no driver for operation. Its intention is to put into DIGITAL CAMERA with SDIO ready. When you take the photo with enough amount, it wills transfer those pictures to Web Storage or you notebook or others depend on its configuration/Model. Some model can use with Hotspot in US and add Location-based into your picture too. Driver needs only when you want to config them on Desktop/Notebook. it is a good idea to rebuild the service for reader or dropbox synch. but no eye-fi itself. |

I found the Eye-fi card too while hunting for an easy way to download PDFs on my iPhone & transfer to an SDHC for the Dr1000. there is a dedicated device that enables this but is a bit expensive (~$100Usd). Snooping around for the eye-fi options, see has been some Linux hacking going on with it, so may still be viable. See : http://git.sr71.net/?p=eyefi-config.git;a=summary And http://kin.klever.net/iii/ |

Never really understood why people keep wanting wifi or bluetooth on a Irex product considering how bad the battery life is. I have not seen anyone have much sucess on hacking the eyefi, cheaper and easier to have a micro sd, a micro sd converter, and Cell Phone with a micro sd slot. |
