Today I was popping my SD card in and out for various reasons, and at least twice I forgot to close Freda first, and later found that Freda had created a folder on the device called SD Card. (My library and temp files are assigned to the SD Card.) Then, when I put the actual SD Card back in, it got called SD Card2. (Same thing as happened to me a week or two ago, except this time I escaped without file-system corruption and was able to delete the bogus folder.) I think it would be really great if error-trapping could be improved to where Freda would notice that the SD Card was missing and produce a message such as: "SD Card not found. Are you sure you wish me to wreak havoc on your file system? Y/N." Or, you know, just the first part. |

Is there any possibility of adding the ability to have multiple folders in your library?

I know absolutely nothing about OPDS and haven't played with it yet, but just out of curiosity could it be (or is it already) a method for syncing pages across devices?

				Freda v2 beta testing

I have a further beta release available for testing; I've emailed out details to my usual testing panel, but if anyone hasn't received details who is interested in doing some testing, please contact me at home@jim-chapman.net. I'd be particularly glad to hear from users of WM5, 2003 and WinCE devices, as I now have test builds for those platforms, and I'd appreciate help with checking them out. BTW, I expect the general release of Freda v2 to happen in a week or so, unless the testing discovers some truly fundamental problem. Cheers, Jim |

It's a way of representing catalogs of books - typically on-line catalogs like FeedBooks. But you can also use it for your own private book collection if you keep that collection in Calibre. It doesn't offer a way to synch bookmarks or 'latest page read'.

I wanted to wait a couple days of use before I gave you feedback. I haven't been able to use it as much as I would've liked over the last couple of days, but what time I have spent it was to test Freda (as opposed to actually reading ). Overall, it works very well. I have run into only 1 crash bug and its not even really a crash and its obscure so I doubt anyone would experience it. I had a book open, with auto open enabled, and I removed the source (I was refreshing the library as I removed a book and added one), then closed Freda by accident. When I reopened Freda it opened, gave me the blue screen and closed it self after a couple seconds. When I opened it again, it opened to the freda welcome screen and all my settings were reset to the default. Of course, I just loaded a preset and I was back. So, its not really much of an issue. It was the only real crash-type bug I encountered and I have been trying to crash Freda (pre-release Q&A style). So I would say, this version is more stable than the previous beta. You fixed the calibre content server problem! I can see books now and load books with no problem. Thank you for adding the source drop down in the library. I really appreciate it! However, its not working right for me. I have two local import paths: \Storage card\EBooks\News \Storage card\EBooks\Books When I choose "source contains", it seems both import paths are listed in the right-hand box. However, when I choose either of them, Freda doesn't list anything. So far, that's it for my couple days feedback. If there is anything specific you might like me to test, I would be happy to. I will continue to put the new beta through its paces. I have an old WM5 device somewhere. I will see if I can dig it up, and if it works, I'll test out Freda on it. Thanks! Edit: Out of curiosity, what are people using for text settings? I'm actually just using white background and black text. I tried black background and white text and it gave me a headache. I have a real lack of imagination or any artistic eye for colors and such. How about textures? Anyone find anything that works well for them? I am embarrassed to admit, the ones that come included with Freda I don't like. Last edited by silkshadow; 07-07-2010 at 02:27 AM. |

I will see if I can get this to happen for me, and will fix it. Would you be able to send me your log file (the file logfile.txt in the Freda program folder). Quote:

I haven't had a lot of time to test, but it seems to be working quite well. Haven't had any glitches or bugs. I am a little uncertain what you've done with the function that assigns a preset to a particular book. Is that now just automatic--every book opens with whatever preset was last used with it? If so, that seems good. How does one assign a default to be used first when a new book is opened? There were two things I wanted to mention that aren't so much test of this beta for bugs as longer-term wishes. One is, although I gather that a forced hyphenation function is pretty tricky to create, how hard would it be to have the text break following a hyphen or a dash? My biggest complaint about reading on a small screen is the severely ragged look you get when words joined by a hyphen or dash are kept together always. And now I can't remember what the other thing was. I'll tell you when I think of it. Thanks! |
