There's no way for me to know if it works for all the jbl's out there. I had a book that was over 1500 pages long, and it took forever to open it up every time I changed battery. Then one time, after I changed the batteries I openned up a much smaller file and it took only a couple seconds. Then I went and opened up that humongous book and lo and behold it opened up in like 5 seconds. I repeated the process over and over and the same result. I even tried opening a book that had 2,000+ pages. Same thing. If I openned it first thing after reset, it took like 20 minutes or so. If I opened it after I opened something else a lot smaller, it only took seconds.

So, ever since then, I had put a very small file right in the main book menu so I can open that first before anything else. Haven't had to wait more than 10 seconds ever since, no matter what size book.

If you want to try a little experiment, you might find the results interesting.

Try:

1. Un-Zipping the .epub into a folder.

2. Find any graphic image files. The book covers and any maps or charts,
as well as any other embedded images.

3. Use a graphic editor, like the free GIMP2, to convert the images into
grayscale black and white images and scale them to fit the display dimensions
of the JBL, at the resolution of the JBL's display.

4. Replace the original image files in the un-zipped folder, with the ones you
have made.

5. Re-Zip the folder into a .zip file.

6. Load the new .zip file into Calibre and convert it into a new .epub ebook.
( Remember to use the "Jetbook 5-inch" output profile.)

Now see how fast it loads.
