"Guys, guys, the breakdown is set. Mostly. Now, we need to think about other elements. Like the music score."

"Oh! Oh! We have to have one like Galactica... all weird Indian instruments and war drums! A-bum-a-bum-a-bum-bum-bum-a-bum-a-bum-bum-bum..."

"But this isn't a war story... it's about people! Why not good old-fashioned orchestras, with violins and oboes and cymbals..."

"No, we should go avant-garde! Let's use an all-electronic score."

"That's not avant-garde... that's 1950s!"

"How 'bout a jazz combo?"

"People hate jazz in movies. Unless it's about depression-era con men."

"A-bum-a-bum-a-bum-bum-bum-a-bum-a-bum-bum-bum..."

"Stop that! Look, I know a kid who has a garage band. I'll ask him to whip something up... just for placeholders, you understand. We'll worry about fleshing it out later."

"What's that gonna cost us?"

"A few iTunes gift cards. What the heck?"

If you do put aliens into it, can they have based their entire expectations on humanity based on some eavesdropping on TV transmissions...

Also, you will get at least one more sale of The House of Jacquarelle, but I need to summon up the courage. You see, I was flying with my Cybook when a really sweet, grey-haired old lady wandered up and asked if that was a Sony Reader. I said no, but it was very similar and asked if she wanted to look at it. She did. Thing was I was reading a bit of your Denial of Service sequence. Yes, one of *those* bits. "I think I might get one of those," said the lady returning my Cybook. I think puce would be an appropriate colour description when I glanced down at the book and realised what I'd just shown her.

(BTW, really enjoyed DoS!)

Ha! Well, tHoJ doesn't have much of that stuff in there, but if it convinces people to buy, maybe I should start adding it!...

Actually, there will certainly be more like that in the Verdant Skies sequel... nothing X-rated, but it will have over-the-counter-in-the-US-acceptable sex in it. (Tell your friends!)

As for aliens... I refuse to discuss any plot particulars, so I can't tell you whether the alien mothership will have been watching Earth TV since the 1950s...

One reason I don't take my book out with me, in case someone wants a demo - and with what I usually read ..... !!!!
