I love my PRS-900. All I do is read on it. It has a lot of fancy schmansy stuff that doesn't work in Oz. But the screen to body size ratio is good. Still small enough to travel well and a bigger screen to read on. The built in dictionery is great and it supports lotsa formats. And its pretty. Its just not the cheapest.

buy an iRex DR800 ;)

here's my $0.02:

I was pretty much feeling the same way you described in your first post: I wanted/needed an e-reader (that was supposed to be a device to read books on, no mp3, no text-to-speech, no surfing the internet, no wireless, nothing - just a reader. but a good one.). I was eagerly awaiting every new announcement of every new e-reader that was supposed to hit the market - I dreamed about Plastic Logic Que before anyone ever saw a picture of it, but when it finally came out, it was waaaay too pricey and, honestly, filled with unnecessary (imo) functionalities - and btw, when is it going to be on sale for real?

hm, I'm digressing. anyways, I came to this forum looking for advice, thought I was going to buy a sony prs600 (because prs900 was/is not available for sale in Europe) and then somebody here suggested iRex DR800 (because I also read a lot of scanned image-based non-reflowable pdfs that are poorely (if at all) displayed on smaller screens) - so I took a look, thought it was too expensive but in the end decided to buy it. let me tell you, it's a beautiful product, does perfectly what it's supposed to do, with the upgraded firmware (which works flawlessly) there are added possibilities of dealing with documents (zoom, word search etc.). There is also a third-party software (FBReader) that displays formats not natively supported by the device (mobi, chm and a bunch of others I don't use), and there is a number of other applications that I don't use, but that could be useful to you (there's an incomplete list here https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Digi..._for_the_DR800 ) .
The device itself is very user-friendly, I like the design and the ergonomics of it (the flipbar is great), I use it close to 6 hours every day - it's everything I wished for, my only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner

hope this helps you in your quest

You're right, I do. Price is a factor, its just not the main factor. I looked into the devices both you and Logseman recommended. They seem like pretty good machines, the pocketbook especially. At first glance I thought the buttons were on the wrong side (I hold books in the left) but after watching the youTube videos I realize that is a non-issue. In the end though, I don't think I can live with a 5" or 6" screen. Call me picky.

I think I will go with the DR800. The screen quality just calls to me. Your suggestions were all much appreciated and really helped me clarify my options.

Lots of love, I will be back!

So I go ahead and order it from Best Buy but then today I got an email that said the order was canceled b/c they couldn't verify my information. Okay. I wasn't sure what was up, most places will call you to confirm before they cancel. So I call Best Buy. I have to talk to two people and I'm told its all the banks fault. So I call my bank and go through 5 levels of menus, do what the nice Best Buy lady said, then I go back to Best Buy.

I type in, "DR800"

We're sorry. We didn't find any matches for "DR800"

"DR800SG"

We're sorry. We didn't find any matches for "DR800SG"

"IREX"

We're sorry. We didn't find any matches for "IREX"

... thanks Best Buy!

iRex appears to be sold out at the moment.

So I don't think it's a problem on Best Buy's end of things.

You're reasoned response does not get me my IREX by the end of the week and thus isn't as welcome as you might have hoped. :P

I thought my DR800 was on the way now...

I was dead set on getting an Astak because I loved the amount of formats it supports and the price is pretty easy on my wallet but I want the screen size of the irex. I feel like I'd destroy anything touch screen(plus, I don't like that Sony has a glare) but with the irex, the compromise of touch screen with the stylus is genius!!!! I'm still confused with how what the differences of the DR800 and the Iliad really are...

Mostly as I understand it, the DR800 firmware is a major improvement over the Iliad. (Disclaimer: I've never actually seen either the Iliad or the DR800 and am completely going off what I've read here. So keep that in mind.)

I've just received my AluraTek Libre.

All it does is show me pages and let me listen to MP3s, which is quite sufficient for an eBook reader.

I ordered it from sears for $100 the friday before memorial day. I'm loving it. Nice and thin and very light.

Calibre sees it as a 5" Jetbook.
