Windows 7 if supposedly more efficient than Vista. Not sure how it stacks up to XP.

WinXP is actually preferred if you don't need the touchscreen capabilities. |

Windows 7 is MS's best OS ever, imo. (And I say that as someone who absolutely detested Vista.) |

I've been using it at work most of the last week and do like it. Only one small issue that we need to clear up, but nothing to do with W7 itself....need to rebuild one program/dll.

Yeah, from the little I've used it, it's a nice improvement.

But Windows 8 will probably be out by the time my universities backwards IT department roles out Windows 7 on our machines (all I have is my office desktop at work and my work provided laptop at home). |

I think Vista is probably to blame for companies being slow to upgrade, so many companies will have ended up staying with XP and won't rush to move to win7.

Yeah, neither university I've worked the past few years even upgraded to Vista.

But higher ed is always slow since they usually won't roll out OS upgrades until they're ready to upgrade every computer on campus. |

Xp is less demanding than win7 And in that case preferred for smooth operations, if the net book does not touch capabilities. |

my net book has a touch screen (one I added myself) and runs windows 7 just fine. I did, however, scale down all the graphics and turn off all unnecessary services. it doesn't perform as well as my desktop, but I never expected it to either.

Win7 runs perfect on netbooks, if not better than XP. Win7 is not a resource hog like Vista. Netbooks are not weak at all. I have a Dual boot of Win 7 and Mac OS X on my netbook. I did absolutely no tweaking and I watch HD videos, and play games on it like Halo, Star Craft, etc with no issue. search insanelywind. it is a Forum for the MSI wind, and see what people can do on netbooks. Win7 is also the first Windows where the 64-bit version is totally viable and the better choice for any system with 4GB+ memory. I went straight from XP to 7 on the same hardware and noticed a significant performance increase...even with 3D games.
