yeah I know I have to put bells on her when we go to the real woods. when we did a lot of search and rescue (on hold due to the knee) she was always in a pack and bells. as highly visible and pleasantly noisy as possible.

That was my first thought, too. I thought Strider was a big cat; is that a future thing - is he just a big kitten right now? I can't remember how old he is now.

he's not going to be quite as big as some of the more expensive and closer in line Savannah's. he is an F5. but! he is only 9 months old, weighs about 15 pounds, and they grow until they are 4. his body is as long as my thigh, knee to crotch, and I am fairly tall, 5'8 with pretty long legs. also keep in mind, that is a 200 pound dog he is with!

Thanks, KK. I guess I'll have to spend some time on the dog pages of Wikipedia. I think I thought newfs were a bit smaller, too. We don't see many four-legged newfs around downtown Toronto. I thought they were closer to Labs, which are fairly popular here.

yeah, the 4 footed Newfies are the ancestors of the Lab, but MUCH larger! depending on who you read sometimes they are classified as the "largest", but obviously Great Danes are taller, St. Bernards are close, several of the Mastiffs, particularly the English and Tibetan are pretty huge, and the Leonberger (burger?) can be similar

When we had them when I a kid we had new neighbors move in beside us and my dad had to talk them out of calling the police for our "bear" we had running around in the yard.

One more day till you see the little one - please do report. Soooo cute. Wish I could add one to my family but the resident cat would object and move out (he did that before).

I know it's going to be great!!!

you guys will get a kick out of this... she and her husband love to boat. they take all of the "special needs" kittens with them when they go boating. we will be meeting at a restaurant that has dock privleges for boaters. and no, I already asked, she doesn't have tiny little kitten sized life jackets. and YES I will take PLENTY of pictures!!!

boating kittens!!!! who'd a thunk it!?

Oooooh , soooo jealous. Have a great day and fall even more in love with the little one - mind you, try and restrict yourself to one.

theoretically this heart has matured enough to be slightly realistic. I mean after all I managed to NOT buy the VW Bug in the parking lot today when my car conked out! that's a good thing! (and besides I told myself... bug or cat, bug or cat...) one of these days my former life shall return and I can entertain these fancies a lot easier!
