A case that works

I have the m-edge page sleeve case for the Kindle and the Kobo fits it. The case is a little over-long, perhaps, since the Kindle is bigger, but it's just fine for tossing into a backpack---and since the Kobo is comfortable to read 'naked' it will do the job Just an FYI for anyone who is looking. On my way out the door now but I can post pics later. |

Please do! My wife and I went shopping today looking for a case suitable to put her Kobo in but we struck out.

The clerk in Chapters said the cases will be in shortly but weren't quite ready for launch.

All right here are some pics. As you can see, the sleeve is a little over-sized (this case was designed for a Kindle 2, which is slightly wider and longer). But I actually did not use it much for the Kindle because it is a little too snug for me. It works better imho with the smaller Kobo---as long as you don't mind having that wasted space at the bottom since the Kindle is longer The Kobo is better than the Kindle for reading 'naked'---more ergonomic, and with that comfortable backing. So for me, having a proper case for it is not that big a deal, I just want some protection for it if I am throwing it into my bag. And I am not sure I'll keep the Kobo---if my mother doesn't like it, she'll give it back to me, but if she does, I plan to give mine to her once I have the 'playing with my new toy' impulse out of my system So I am not going to invest in an official case for it if I already have one that a) does the job and b) which is not already in use. Anyway, you can see how it looks in the pic, so you can make your own choices |

Why do we need a case? To protect the screen?

The Kobo is just a rebadged Netronix EB600. Any case that's sold for any other EB600 machine should work just fine. Eg, Bookeen CyBook Gen3, Cool-ER, etc.

The outer screen is plastic. It's the screen "substrate" - a very thin layer of glass that's underneath the outer screen - that's the delicate part. Any "twisting" force on the machine will fracture it. Normal bumps and knocks it's pretty immune to.

It does fit the Owner's Manual case for my Ford Focus - but then all the 6" readers - except maybe the Kindles - will fit in that.

Looking at the posted dimensions of the Kobo and the nook, it looks like the Kobo is 1/2 inch shorter and 1/2 inch narrower than the nook. I took a chance, and ordered the M-Edge GO! Jacket case for the Nook for my mom's reader. I'll let you know how the gamble turns out... January |

Thanks, ficbot! I might order one of these. When I bought my Kobo at Chapters, I asked about a case. The girl said she expected they'll start making and selling Kobo cases sometime soon, but I have no idea when this might be. This one looks pretty good. Yours is a bit too pink for me, but I'll get another color. How do you like the Kobo so far? How do you feel the reading experience compares to a Kindle? I find that my Kobo is a bit slow, and hard to read in dim light -- but it beats the Kindle for ergonomics. VERY comfortable to hold and use, in my opinion. Daniel |

I have a Ford Focus owner's manual case!! Might be abit bulky though to carry around. Will definitely try out when I get home.

I agree with this. I think my dream reader would be the Kobo's shell with the Kindle's internals. It is lighter and less clunky than the Kindle but I don't love epub and would miss TTS and dictionary support. I got the Kobo primarily to give to my mom. If she doesn't like it, I'll sell it.
