That is the law a lot of places. Say you find a wallet in target and take it (and the money in it) rather than taking it to Customer Service. You could be charged with a crime if you somehow got caught. Now that doesn't mean how this case handled was right at all, with the kicking down of the door etc. It was a clear excessive use of force etc.

I don't know - did he take it apart and post pictures of it on the interwebz? Again, under California law the phone was stolen property and gizmodo admitted to possession of it. Although Elfwreck's point a couple posts above is an excellent one - I too hope Gizmodo has documentation that Apple originally told them it was not their phone.

In the most recent articles, the college kid that found the phone may no attempt to find the owner. He did not call Apple or even let the bartender know. He just left the bar with the phone in hand.

This whole thing is outrageous.. I hope Gizmodo files a monstrous (counter) suit against the authorities!

Perhaps the best thing is for Apple and Gizmodo to quickly settle this out of court. When the bust becomes the butt of jokes, you know we're sinking from the serious to the ridiculous: http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/28/jon...-leave-a-mark/ Commentator Jon Stewart has a lot of funny things to say about Jobs and the iPad. Steve should watch this video, and let the imbroglio slide. |

For anyone that is either an Apple "fanboy" in love with the technology, or someone who is opposed to the "walled garden" that Apple is currently creating, Steve Wozniak's biography is a very good read. This will reveal a lot about Steve Jobs, who he is, and where he wants to take his company.
