I love these types of forums with a lot of die hards... First off my idea of this post was to vent, I also stated I was not going to give up on my iPad, I did quote apples video as my source for complaint, it does state that the iPad is the ultimate Internet experience, and in my book at should include flash, and not just flash, there is another video type a flow something that also does not work. I did read that right now no flash was available, but I have hopes it will become available, and quite frankly i do not check every video I see to find out if it is flash QuickTime or other... If you do you really must be way more into it than I am. As for printing I have a couple of he apps and am not thrilled, they do show me that printing was possible and apple just choose to ignore it, but I do see they are working on it.
Finally I was not expecting perfect, just what they promised, the ultimate Internet experience |

I feel I should go a bit further as to why I would not give up my iPad, first, I love it as a reader, for me it is lightyears better than my Sony, I really had trouble with the Sony in low light, I also really like having the time visible on my reader, it bugged me not having a clock on my Sony, that is just me. I like being able to use it for email, it works great, and much better than my iPhone since the keyboard is larger, next, having music with my reader is great. As for using it on the Internet, I would only use it as a part time device as the lack of flash kills alot of my internet use, one of the main sites I use is a guitar site and it requires flash. Is does not mean I would give up on it just that it is not as good as it could be. As for the printing, I can live without it, it just seems that if apple had included it it would have made it all the better, and it seems there is no real reason it was not included. The print programs are limited, like to print an email I have to read the email in their program, to print a web page I have to view it in their browser. A bit redundent

Lastly, to the person who stated that we should talk to the different websites that use flash and ask them to change. That is absurd, it would be much easier for apple to make a small change than for the thousands of sites using flash to change just because apple does not want to use flash. I agree it would be a major benefit for apple if they all did, but......let's be real

A. participates here B. knows that 75% of web video runs on flash definitely knew before purchasing their iPad that it does not and will not support flash. I concur with the fellow who wondered why anyone would buy ANYTHING they knew ahead of time would "bug the sh@t out of me". Before I bought the iPad, I installed a flash blocker for my web browser. I did this to get a real understanding of how much I needed or could do without flash. It confirmed what I already knew -- flash is not that big a deal for how _I_ use the internet. And the things I want to see that need flash -- I use my computer for. I did not buy the iPad to replace my computer. There are MANY reasons I wouldn't do that. Lee |

A. The OP is fairly new to this forum; B. I'd guess the majority of people excited about the iPad don't know that it doesn't support Flash and most don't even know what Flash is exactly. Apple misleading advertising doesn't help, either; and C. Flash is used on the web for a lot more things than just video. And Java is pretty common, too.... |

My word that is presumptuous - there are many examples of stupidity in our society, but not knowing what Flash is or what it is used for does not qualify.

It's a lot more than a small change to use Flash. First, Adobe would need to develop a version of Flash for the iPhone/iPad and they haven't done that. Since Adobe is not developing Flash for the iPad, your only recourse is to complain to the websites that are using Flash. |

I don't understand what is this thread about, is it about features missing in iPad which were well known before the launch or as some people calling it someone else stupidity. We are book readers in the first place than may be gadget lovers. Some are apple fan boys and some are windows zealots, we should never call other people stupid because some of us like one particular device and think that device is gift of god.
iPad users stop complaining about features which were not intended by apple and now the iPad is released and apple can not do anything about, may be features will be added in iPad 2.0 |

I suppose others can make similar comments about you in areas where you lack specific knowledge....
I'd guess a large portion of iPad's purchasers have no idea that it does not support Flash. And probably an even larger portion doesn't know that the iPad doesn't support Java. |

It's not even like you have to read forums like thise to have heard that the iPad doesn't run flash. It's been plastered all over the news, all over the blogosphere, and ever other post on ANY forum talking about the iPad. People who do not know anything about the internet, do not come here to post. People wanting a device to do what the advertising says it does does not make them stupid. I actually did know it did not do flash from the start, but I really did not realize how much I use flash, that being said, yes there was alot of talk about flash and some of it did actually say that flash support was in the pipeline, maybe that was bs,, but still that does not make me stupid. Furthermore my wife is getting a iPad3g and she could not even tell you what flash is. Trust me calling her stupid is crazy as her iq is over 165 , she just does not care enough to learn about flash, she just wants it to do what apple says it will do, and I know she will be po when she hits a web site and cannot play the flash video, will she give up on it probably not as she will use it for her podcasts more than anything and to read books, but she can still be po that it does not play flash video when apple claims it is the ultimate Internet experience. The poster who called me stupid should reevaluate how he judges people. Another example, my wife has a BMW 325 , the engine has variable valve timing, and I know she has no clue how it works or what it does, but she still loves the car, but for other reasons. Does the fact that she cannot tear down the engine of her car make her stupid? For that matter can all of you tear down the engines of your cars? Even simpler, do you know, without peaking how many liters of oil your car takes?

1. it's funny how people took my obviously sarcastic comment seriously and got all defensive..
i never called a single person here stupid. i made a generalized comment directed at no one in particular.. so if you took it personally, that's your own problem. 2. Quote:
hell. i wonder just how many of the people complaining about lack of flash on the ipad were complaining years ago when IE failed to render web sites correctly because microsoft wouldn't follow standards. i bet none of you. |
