Burning a $500 bill as a way of saying "isn't my lighter cool" -- would seem obscene to me as well.

Gratuitous destruction of property does not make me think "wow, I must buy that blender".

It's simply cost-effective marketing for a small company making a fairly specialised product where one selling point is the strength of the blades.

While destroying some new hardware toy doesn't make you rush out and buy the blender, I bet a helluva lot more people are aware they actually exist before they started this series.

It's no B.S., the blender really is that mean. I purchased one for my wife in Feb '08. She's a woman that knows her way around the kitchen like you wouldn't believe and she's still impressed with it as the day we unpacked the monster.
