"The Last Station" with Helen Mirren & Cristopher Plummer. Great movie about the last weeks in the life of Tolstoi, the Tolstayan movement . Although a bit week in the depiction of Russian people I felt but nevertheless a very good movie. Inspired me to try and find out more about him and his life. |

Watched this a week or two back: It is much like what you would expect if Hayao Miyazaki and William Gibson had collaborated on a project. With a smidgen of Kurosawa thrown in (I'm thinking about Rhapsody in August.) |

In keeping with this thread's topic, here's a movie I'd recommend: - Astro Boy (the CGI movie recently released on DVD): Although it makes some changes to the story (as has been the case with each version of "Astro Boy"), overall it was a good movie that was true to the original manga. One nice touch is that they go against expectations with some of the characters (to provide an example, Dr. Elefun is treated in a dignified manner rather than as a more comic character). Although the movie is CGI, the character retain the Tezuka's distinctive look. | |

Watching the first three Karate kids with the kids. They want to see the remake and I am not letting them until we watch the originals. A lot of you folks are close enough to my age to remember the originals. What do you think of the movie so far based off the trailers? |

It was so bad I found it unwatchable even as a kid in the 80s, and I liked plenty of awful cartoons as a kid in the 80s. I'm sure the original writers would give an arm and a leg to be able to do a movie, though. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...-bl0wD9FVT7M80 |
