Well, all the really nasty weather every winter comes down from Alberta, called Alberta Clippers. So, if they've got that much to export to the IceBox, then I imagine they must have rather the full gamut of really bad blizzards there just sitting on the shelves.

I'm totally a cold weather kind of gal! born in Colorado, moved to Alaska when iddybiddy... lived there until I was 5 so all of my climate controls are set for extremely low. seriously much above 80 and I start getting nervous and looking for fans

I'm not entirely certain what is driving the need. it looks like there may be a fair amount of oil and gas activity. that wouldn't be new as I "did some time" supporting telecomm in the oilfields in Wyoming.

I'd try to find out what is driving it, you may find out it isn't as permanent as you'd like. And then you'd be stuck!

On the other hand, it is probably quite beautiful up there, so there would be many worse places to be stuck. I'd still recommend a visit to scope it out though.

Much of Alberta is similar to Nebraska. With ice. If you like vast, sweeping scenic flatness, then, yeah, it's probably beautiful. I can't say that I've been in Edson, though. It may be over toward the foothill side of the province.

I've looked at maps and aerials because that was one of my first concerns. this place has a ski area right outside town, so it can't be to bad. a 13 hour drive is not terribly easy to do.

I think it is probably pretty much like the front range! maybe more Fort Collins than Boulder, but you get the drift
