Steampunking my reader - Page 3

I would want a nice leather cover that makes it look like a book. Similar to the Scanner that someone else did. I prefer "A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer" In a nod to Neil Stephenson's 'Diamond Age: A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer' Gold leaf and nice binding. MMMM

Supposing that Cpt. Tim is not a young lady, just "An Illustrated Primer" might be good. Fancy gold leaf on a nice cover (I'd have mock-leather, being a vegetarian type person). Maybe a gold/brass diary lock?

A pressure gauge label behind a glass bezel, perhaps in a brass bezel cup, would make another good nav button cover. (I think the idea of the round brass typewriter keys for the number buttons is excellent.... Have you tried a scrapbooking section at a craft store to see if they have something like that? "Vintage" doodads seem to be popular in scrapbooking right now.)

Hm... Maybe I'll cover my iLiad in wood veneer.

When using a hardback book as a cover, how do you get the cover to stay attached to the back of the reader? Or is it just sandwiched in?

I would imagine that something like Velcro would work well.

I have a couple of those black connectors from the 2 covers that were misaligned. I would use one of those.

Hm... what came before velcro... zippers... that's it! A row of tiny buttons requiring a button hook!

Maybe loops arranged to hook over each of the four corners and then draw tight to be tied?

How about good old fashionned Victorian hand forged screws through the reader!

Devising a set of clamps shouldn't be so hard. A pair of high powered magnets and using the lanyard slot should do it.

I know this is completely off-topic, but for those interested in "steampunk," I just saw a movie called "The Perfect Creature." It's kinda a sleeper vampire movie from New Zealand released last year, but the scenery and antiquarian special effects are awesome. It's a great example of the idea.
