I'm not quite sure what they mean either to be honest. What I would expect is for you to return your reader then once they have received it for you to get a refund or replacement.

I don't think I could be bothered with all of this nonsense.

Is there a whsmith store near you - I would take your reader in and demand a refund/replacement on the spot - they can then deal with the faulty reader in store. What a palava.

They should have just asked you whther you wanted a replacement at no charge or a full refund.

That's what I understood, though it is not very clear. Anything else would have been outrageous, so yes, probably the refund is a given.

Wetdogeared and omk3 thanks both ... yeah I'm unsure so I sent another emailasking for clarification, explaining I was confused by the wording of thier reply,

Took dead 600 back to Best Buy and received a new 600. Wow, very impressed. Now trying to reload my purchased book, nada. If was getting minimum wage for the time I've spent on this I could buy a new Kindle and Nook.
