Gender schema is essential in a childs developement to help them learn the difference between male and female and is a categorization of men and women. It is a network of associations that organize and guide a child's perception, helping them find their own identity and assess situations where the roles between men and women are defined. Children differenciate between male and female voices, behavoirs, and physical characteristics. They either go one of two ways with it; they conform by dismissing actions and behavoirs that do not match their sex or they reject the traditional gender roles they have been taught. Often it is found that once you aknowledge your gender you tend to fit in with the stereotypes of feminine or masculaine. Feminine you are passive, emotional, and polite and with masculine you are willful, agressive, and strong. The differences in activites and preferences start early in the child's life, usually around or right after the age of 2. Girls tend to spend more time indoors playing with tea sets, imaginary friends, and dolls whereas boys are more likely to play outside and engage in sports. Often depending on the culture, it is encouraged within the community that once the gender roles are assigned children seperate difference by sex typing, emphasizing those differences with the same sex parent, mothers teaching their daughters "feminine" skills and the fathers teaching their son "masculine" traits. This may be why it is often so hard for single parents to raise their opposite sex children successfully from birth, as mothers cannot teach their son to be confident in their sex without total embarrassment and fathers cannot buy tampons for their daughters without wanting to run out of the store, red faced and flushed with humility. As it is needed to help discover a childs identity it can also hinder them as well. Most of the stereotypes placed on women and men generate from gender schema and results in predjudice. For an example, in the workplace men are considered to be more successful and creative where women appear to just be lucky. Failure for men is contributed to bad luck, where for women failure is because of lack of skill or knowledge. Women can feel pressured to have a family and confine themselves to a role as caregiver and housekeeper, resulting in marital distress. Men who do not fulfill the standard of "male behavior" can suffer from low self esteem or low self-worth.

I've written about 2 paragraphs in 2 hours. I've also made coffee, checked my email about 45 times, F5-ed Mobileread, rearranged the books on my reader, added tons of books to my library at Smashwords, and sat staring off into space for a while.

In-text citations are basically pointers to your references page in APA format. If you cite something in-text, you must also have an entry for it on your references page.

BS'ing through it is called "failure" in my school. Gets you put on academic probation.

(full disclosure: I loathe, despise, and otherwise feel negatively about APA formatting. Pshrynk, I'm SURE it's your fault, somehow.

And besides that, why were psychologists coming up with a writing format anyway? Shouldn't they have been, oh, I don't know, psychoanalyzing someone or something?)
