I cannot say enough how this helps. I remember when we first talked about the Pocket PRO on MobileRead Forum. There was concern anout how light it is and how thin it is. Yet, I notice now that the lightness and size are near the top on "likes". I also note that the 20 formats continues major. It warms my heart alot to see that so many people value the Pocket PRO for many different reasons... yet we agree. Thank you SOOOO much for this poll! |

I also voted. I never actually held one yet, but I've watched enough videos on youtube with the PP that I know exactly how it'll be. I think that being light and thin is a good thing as long as the reader feels solid and strong when you hold it in your hand. For example, some older laptops that are made of plastic feel flakey and creak when you hold them. But most apple laptops are made of metal and feel very sturdy in your hands - even if they are really thin. That's what matters most. And from what I've seen, the PP looks very sturdy.

One of the reasons I bought it is for its size. I would prefer a smaller reader with a 5" screen that actually fits in my pocket over a reader with a 6" screen that's bigger and may not fit in my pocket as easily. |

Pocket PRO is light and small but very solid!

I agree. Light and small can mean "shakey and too flexible". The Pocket PRO you recieve feels like a solid piece of 100% plastic. There is NO flex and everything is built solidly. It feels wonderful in the hand and is NOT slippery. Most say it feels like a non-skid almost-rubber finish! It is VERY hard to transfer in words what you will find. Suffice it to say the quality feel is there! This was proven at CES when attendees after attendee made the same comment: "it just feels so good in the hand"! |

Long time lurker, first time poster. My first official act at MR: voting in this poll! Most of my reasons are the same as others, but there's another, unlisted reason for liking the Pocket Pro (even though I realized this between choosing it and purchasing it). That reason is actually the lack of wireless internet access. What this means is the lack of temptation to go online with it and surf the web, rather than spending more time reading books. I already spend too much time online and not enough reading books, so hopefully when my Pocket Pro arrives, I'll be able to at least partially reverse that trend.

				Another vote for non-wireless

			Quote:

That has been very eye opening from the start for Astak. SO many people love non-wireless. Unfortunately, reviewers LOVE wireless. I have actually had reviewers rate the device lower because "no wireless". I keep telling them that there are two groups... people who want it and people who do not. Not having wireless is NOT a defect... it is a choice. So many on here want non-wireless as they love the fact that their computer is their back-up for a lost SD card or a loss of their Pocket PRO (God forbid). In the future, Astak will roll out wireless devices (likely the first will be in a few months and will be Wi-Fi). BUT... again, it is to offer a choice! I just really get irritated with reviewers that do think "if it ain't wireless... it ain't any good". Stop lurking and start posting more!! We love you here! |

I wonder sometimes if those reviewers actually read books on anything, let alone an ebook reader. There are at least a dozen independent book stores selling ebooks to all comers. A reader really needs its own dedicated book store and the ability to buy books with the reader to be successful? What really baffles me is that none of the reviewers are at all curious about reader software - how it organizes books, if it uses metadata or not, how hard or easy it is to side load and find books on the device. They rave about 3G and assume that people who use ereaders are too stupid to load content from a computer. Sigh... Rant over.

I never judge a device by reviews, at least not professional reviews. I much prefer to come here and get the opinions of people who actually use the devices on a daily basis.

![]() By extension, if a device is capable of book reading AND Internet use, then ALL book reading devices must have Internet capability to be successful. God help us if Amazon puts out a new Kindle with a cup holder! |
