Blarg, where are the downloads for the english firmware? The only link I've found is this http://www.witstech.com.cn/en/download.asp and that's not working. I see lots of different firmwares posted on their forums but I assume those are all chinese.

That is our offical BBS website. Yes you are right.All the firmware and software are Chinese version. It is for our domestic customers.Most of the useful software are uploaded by the A81 fans. We tested them,most of them can't run on the English version A81. kathy kathyzhong6699@hotmail.com |

Wow, what a different experience this is when compared to the Smart Q7. It's well built, light, the screen is beautiful, the included accessories, english firmware and a complete Windows CE.
Jiongtang got it to me yesterday, after having ordered it very early Sunday morning so four business days - I paid the extra $2 for ups shipping. I emailed Kathy last night about the firmware and she sent me a link to the latest English firmware, including the Silverlight UI in english. I'm playing with it now and it's easy to use. Also the new IE is very cool. |

@houndx
I ended up having to use the Wirelession firmware which is on their site under downloads.

If Kathy gives me permission, I'll put it up on my site for download. It's not labeled A or C but since it's working on my device I'll assume it's C. The only problem I'm having with it is that the wireless signal drops out randomly, but I couldn't even connect with the shipped firmware.

Other than the full English OS (which the V7 has), what do you think is better about the W1060 vs. the Q7 (other than the all English OS).

It's smaller, lighter, the screen is nicer, the WinCE implementation is very nearly complete(compared to SmartQ leaving nearly everything out), the build quality is better, and the included accessories are, well, included(carrying case and car charger, plus jiongtang.com included a free screen protector). The frequent firmware updates can't be dismissed either. Smartdevices has not released a single WinCE update for the Q series since the release of the V series.
Having used it for a few days my only complaints are that the wireless is unstable, I miss the hardware buttons of the SmartQ, and the included stylus is pretty underwhelming(so is the SmartQ's). |

One thing that's been bugging me is that they left the mouse cursor on when the firmware was compiled. To fix this you can use the registry editor and go to hkey_local_machine/system/gdi/drivers and change the value of Cursor from 1 to 0 then reboot.
Now, if I could figure out how to get internet access over bluetooth from my iphone. I've enabled tethering, paired it to create a BTPAN.. then uh.. as far as I can tell that should be it. I've tried setting up a dial up connection but that just disconnects as soon as I try to use it. Does anyone have any experience with this? |

The tether thing, I love it with T-mobile, especially if you have a WM6.1. The network can't figure out that your doing it through WM, not extra charge

Smartdevices clearly saw a demand for English firmware on these devices since they added the option with the V series. Did they choose to go back and recompile the existing WinCE firmware in English for the Q series? No, they dropped the Q customers like a hot rock. Seriously, recompiling WinCE in another language is trivially easy and, in my mind, it's inexcusable to abandon your early adopters only a few months after the release of your initial product. Don't think what you're reading above is sour grapes. I'm happy with the Q7 and have even thought about trying to get it back from my wife. But Smartdevices gave me and everyone who bought one a pretty clear middle finger by not releasing the Android firmware that they're happy to sell you on a brand new Q7. Seen here and here. tl:dr - I'm not giving SmartDevices any more of my money if they want to sell me firmware updates by selling me new hardware. |

Well Houndx, here is a demo Video of the W1120. Take a look. Its short, but gives a better view on the device than before.
