I'm amazed at some of the AppleHate that folks are aiming at the iPad. I guess people are upset that they let themselves get sucked in by all the hype and really thought Uncle Steve would make a magical new super tablet for $1000, and are surprised to see a casual computing device for half the price. I think he delivered exactly what I was expecting: an enhanced version of an already very successful product. I really like my iPod Touch, but can definitely see getting a lot of usage out of a larger screen iPad. $500 seems pretty reasonable to me, especially when you compare it to what is being offered by the competition at that price. If you don't like iPad, don't buy one. My guess is that it will be fairly successful, on a par with the current iPod Touch. I showed my best friend some of the comments I've seen on various web-sites about 'iTampon', 'Max-iPad', etc. She shook her head and said, "What, are some of these computers geeks 12-year old boys?" |

Just to clear up the discussion about applications being used on multiple iphones. This is from apple's iTunes terms of use page: Quote:

one more tidbit from the app license itself. Sorry, I'm wading through legalese, not trying to spam the thread. :/ Quote:
All of this is on the same license page I linked above, you can search for a phrase to read the whole thing in context.

Debating is fine, not liking a product is fine, but making stuff up to support an argument, is not fine.

A LOT of people who seem unimpressed with the iPad seem to make very basic mistakes that show they dont really know much about the latest apple devices and are basing judgements on incorrect information. From accusing people of abusing licences by having their apps on multiple products, to believing iTunes music still has DRM and isnt MP3 and many other examples. I think whilst having opinions about a product and discussing them is good it is very difficult to have an intelligent conversation when some people present mistaken incorrect beleifs as facts. |

Apple certainly seems to polarise opinion - I can't wait till they release an e-reader.

If you own a Windows 7 computer, you can find applications from a million different sources. If you own an iWhatever, you have one source for applications. The mystery to me is how can so many people fall for that? Having the hardware locked to installing only "approved" applications allows them to dictate what you can or can't install, and set the price to whatever they want. How/why would anyone fall for that?

The other 'nail' I noticed is how even some Apple fans are disappointed. You can read flavors of this on engadget.com and gizmodo.com in analysis by blog writers, folks who write for those blogs. The iPad is a niche device in that some pundits are pointing out the iPad is trying to fit in between a Smart Phone and the bottom, bottom end of Netbooks. Well most of those blog writers (you could see pictures of them working at tables at CES) are 'road warriors' and have two smart phones and a laptop - their comments are that Uncle Steve has failed to convince them to weigh themselves down with an additional device. The logical person, reading such comments, would immediately conclude, "well, then the iPad is not for you." But for some of the former fans who are now disappointed in that they cannot justify spending money for the iPad the dislike seems to be turning to hate. Because there was a big tech 'party' and there was no flavor of 'cake' for them? I do not know. Last edited by BWhite; 01-29-2010 at 05:05 PM.
