So much for the initial "it will be around the Kindle's price" (which was $400 at the time). Of course, we all knew that was pretty much BS.

Damn! This is one expensive device. No way I can justify getting one.

Cheaper than I was expecting, I must say. I was expecting around the $1000 mark. Seems like excellent value at that price.

I still think its an excellent value but I would have rather seen a price under $500 for the non 3g.

Very cool device. I have absolutely no need for it, but very cool. At $800 I will not even bother to try to come up with a reason to need id.........

Well whatever the price something is certain. This thing raises the bar: other readers look like toys, in capabilities and design (and alas, price), as compared to this. I hope other manufacturers will realize that the market is maturing and that sleeker and more flexible devices are necessary.

It was never a remote possibility, in my mind, given all the R&D investment which has to be recouped by sales of the device. It's clearly targeted, like the iRex devices, squarely at the business user, rather than the home.

Wow about the price. That is more than my laptop (got a great deal through work). There is no way that is worth the price differential compared with the current B&W readers.

So wait... internal memory only, no microSD card slot?
Also... what can you do with the 3G? Only access the Que/B&N store? Or, can you access other stores and stuff like on the Kindle? Is the 3G free? Really.... $650 isn't bad... Compared to the Kindle DX that has no touch screen/stylus annotation features and a very basic PDF one document at a time viewer.... I wonder what the "actual in-use" battery life is. They must know... I assume they have been beta testing this thing for quite a while. Hmm.... BOb |

One thing they seem to focus on is the "Ecosystem" they are creating-which implies a wide range of devices at various price points in the future...that said, those prices seem pretty much in-line with the feature set and target market to me...plus it puts the rumored $1,000 range tablet prices in better context.

Specs from the barnesandnoble website:
I'm guessing it's like the iphone: no expandable storage and no user-replaceable battery. Similar resolution to kindle dx but half the number of shades. Screen refresh seems fast and looks comparable to irex's dr800sg. With all the email/calendar related features, it reminds me of a giant PocketPC (it is WinCE-based) and I half-expect them to have a bullet point saying it can upgrade to Windows Mobile 7. No wonder Amazon's Kindle DX World-version is staying at $489. Where does it officially mention that the touch screen technology is under the e-ink? I know PVI/E-ink are working with a company to bring their force-based touch technology to their screens. I think it works by having sensors on the corners of the screen that measure the force applied to the screen to calculate coordinates (I would guess this means no multi-touch support). Wow, a $1000 Apple iSlate doesn't seem so crazy anymore... |

there's only 1 pic of the bottom i can find so far but it looks like there might be an SD slot.
The subscriptions for mag and news can all be pushed to the device but i wonder if thats with the wifi as well as the 3g. the 3g is "free" |
