Um

I'm confused. The umlaut is an diacritical sign that modifies a wovel sound (at least in German, AFAIK). So it's not really a 'letter'. Or perhaps you didn't mean that at all, and I've misunderstood you

Now we are back to the dumb full-length scrolling of all adequately hinted at post!

Next I suggest you embed the letter image at the end of a gif animation, with the letter flashing only a fraction of a second!

Or you can replace the image by some ascii art

Didn't really understand the reference to umlaut as I didn't even know what that is until I read this thread, nor do I speak German. But the rest of the clue was pretty straight forward.

My guess is still looking good.

Found it at once. Are the hints getting easier and easier instead of harder and harder? It's a shame that this new shortcut thing that I had only just learnt about didn't deliver as planned. I mean, the purpose of this it to get to know the forum better, or not?
