Also mine was more than half charged when I received it. Of course you need to fully charge it but just saying it is actually sent partly charged already.

Yes. But do not try and FLASH the firmware until you have a really good (Full is best) charge. Running out of power during an upgrade could be devastating Some devices protect against this, but I am not willing to test it with my PEz. |

You need enough battery power to assure the device won't die in the middle of the upgrade because if that happens then it will have to go back to the factory.

I don't know if the PP will run from the power cord with a dead battery though, it could still be relevant. Why be so finicky about this. Just charge the dang thing up and do it.

As for mains, the Pocket Pro, as I understand it, only uses the USB port for power. There is no standard way to draw power in this manner other than to connect as a USB device and negotiate with the computer. If the software is broken, then this negotiation cannot take place and the device cannot charge. Furthermore, the device probably disassociates from the computer during the firmware update meaning it is no longer "on mains". Finally, it may be the case that charging/power management is entirely controlled via software. Thus, if the software breaks the device can no longer manage its power settings. That being said, Hanlin has probably accounted for one or more of these scenarios. I know that the Sony PRS-505 (in addition to the power port) can trickle charge form USB without negotiation so at least one company has considered that emergency case. The Hanlin V3 (and possibly the V5) comes with a wall adapter (using the USB port) wherein the hardware engineers can play games with the USB port to allow charging even in the case of errors. And all of the above to say that Hanlin, as an experienced company, is unlikely to have made the collection of errors required to "brick" your device. You are almost certainly okay no matter what you do.

The bootloader can not be damaged or changed during a firmware upgrade because it is in the protected FLASH boot segment. It is true that an aborted upgrade will leave you with a useless device UNTIL a successful firmware load is accomplished, but the bootloader will still be available to do the firmware load. It *may* be difficult to get the battery to charge with an aborted firmware load, but it is still possible to boot the bootloader running from a USB charging source. This scenario has been repeated over and over again on the BeBook( yet another Jinke/Hanlin device) support forum.
