Yes, snow is pretty rare in Paris. I remember a couple of times when it snowed. One happened to be on a day I had to leave home early to take a train. It had snowed during the night, and there were no tire tracks yet. Everything was silent. It was cool. Of course the train was delayed by the snow

Another time was on a Sunday morning, so I ran to a beautiful big park (Parc Montsouris) that was near my apartment - they had closed it because of the snow!!!! So that nobody could get hurt and sue them, I suppose. Sometime it seems all the simple pleasures in life are going to be forbidden some day

yes, remember last year when it snowed so much ? i went to the parc des buttes chaumont to take photos, and it was closed too. i took some photos through the grille but it would have been nicer to go inside. i could see all that snow completely pristine. then a man walked past with a little dog ; the little dog went through the grille and the man threw snowballs for him and the dog chased them, running around like a mad thing in the snow. i envied the dog a little bit ; i could never fit through that grille.

It was Winter 1997. Never forget it because I got married that year and Europe in the grip of one of the coldest winters since I don't know. It was so cold that we had to take the tram to the registry office cos no cars where going.

It was the first winter my husband ever experiened but instead of snow he got tons of ice . Was difficult to pry him off the heater

I don't know if it's just distance, but Mainland Europe always seems much more romantic when it snows. I was at a Christmas Market in Germany some years ago when it was snowing and it all felt so much more Christmasy and magical. The sights, the smells, the sounds; if you ignored the modern world at the edge of the market it might have been a hundred years earlier. And then a choir began signing "O Tannenbaum" and that was it - I grinned for a good solid hour afterwards

april 1979 saw Versailles in a snow flurry. wasn't huge but there was indeed snow. and a moped accident right at the gates

tbh I'm not big on snow - although it can be pretty. But I soooo would love a white Christmas these year as my stepdaughter and I will be in Europe and she never had a white Christmas.

So can you all please send a few requests to the weather guru on our behalf?

Paris in snow or Rome would be different too

well there we are then. thanks ! i can never remember dates. the best i could tell you is i was still living in my previous appartment, so it was definitely more than 10 years ago. but yes, it was FREEZING that year. in paris we had -13°C !! that's almost unheard of.

i think it was in january when it snowed here last year too (florence ? do you remember ? or katti's cat ?). it was even more exceptional than usual because that time it snowed, and then IT STAYED ! finally i understood what people complained about as a lot of it got tramped down and turned into ice, and going to the shops turned into an obstacle course where you hoped you'd make it there and back without breaking your neck. still fun though !

Sorry, I got it wrong, it was the Christmas market in Bergen, Norway And I don't have a single picture of it (girl + love + loss of love + anger + pair of scissors and a drunken night = no piccies )

We don't normally get much where we are - but there was enough last year to have a snow day The yeti and I went out a couple of hours after it started falling, writing messages in the snow and trying to take pics - we were both very surprised to find there was even more of it around the following morning!
