I *think* given when the story is set, he might get pregnant at some point.

Stop looking at me like that.... I think the etymology of pregnant, whilst always having an overtone of "with child" did commonly also mean full. As in a pregnant pause. So after a good meal. Or perhaps Vera will describe him as "pregnant of it"....

I thought it wasn't so much "full" as "expectant" .... which (expecting) is another synonym for pregnant. But anyway, a pregnant pause is one which feels like something is going to happen, soon.

Hugo waved Lefty off and spoke into the phone, "You could do that? Thanks, babe! I owe you lunch sometime. Give Marc a squeeze for me!"

They heard a muffled, "Eighteen! Thank God!" and then felt a cessation of the stair climbing.

i had no idea adrian's powers extended to altering the total number of stairs in a flight instantaneously. i'm impressed.

...or is this one of those "needle stuck in the groove" problems where all that was needed was a passing volatile of the waterfowl type, and the according well-known consequences ? adrian's skillz in that art are universally acknowledged to be "mad".

Bois Aussi and Slite walked down the street. They were looking for a taxi, but they did not come to this sort of neighborhood. They resigned themselves to walking.

"I very much doubt it. He looked to be in the throes of acute Heroism. They very seldom accomplish much more than making a mess on the floor which they do not clean up."

"Still, the look on the Jeffe's face was worth waiting around for."

"Oui. And the slapping of his adjutant. I enjoy a good slapping almost as much as an intense saunter. I have no idea why they did not include that in the Olympics coming up. Filthy Nazis."

"Do you have any idea about what the ice connection is?" asked Slite after a few minutes of silence broken only by the chattering of squirrels in the trees above them.

"Perhaps. In my country, thieves sometimes freeze diamonds into ice to smuggle them past the gendarmes. Of course, when I need to smuggle diamonds, I find it is much more comfortable to just pay off the relevant officals beforehand. Carrying ice in one's pockets becomes tiresome after a while."

"Okay. But what in the world would they need so much ice and diamonds for?"

"Ah, my friend, that is why we are here. And the Americain buffon, as well, of course."

"Somehow, I just know that Dr Montsnmags is behind this..."
