Sunglasses dude believes E Ink will replace holography
Seriously, I have no clue what he is talking about, but this guy seems to have reasons (at least valid to himself) to believe that E Ink technology may eventually replace holography. From the Holography Forum: Quote:

I think I follow the concept (which is interesting, and promising if it would work), but I don't know nearly enough to guess as to whether or not the physics would actually support the idea. |

I don't think it's physically possible to have a material switch from totally opaque to totally transparent. Remember that a hologram has to work through multiple layers to give a 3d illusion. When the first layer becomes opaque, all others are obliterated. The opaqueness of the grid that controls pixels in eink, the same one that renders our screens grayish, could also create problems.

Maybe you could use e ink to generate those optical illusion 3-d images that require you to cross your eyes until you get a headache. |

Such texts will take us to a new depth and introduce a whole new dimension. Imagine reading a a three-dimensional text and all the exercise your eyes will get!

I dunno, radlyp, the whole idea kind of leaves me flat, but perhaps I don't have the depth of knowledge in the area to really grasp the big picture. |
