They've had both epub DRM and Mobi DRM firmwares since February, and multiple epub fixes since then as well as the BeBook Mini product launch. They must have more hamsters than Bookeen.

Read the 'NOTE:' at the end of the changelog

NOTE: If you got a library of mobipocket protected files, you can always revert to the latest mobipocket version of the software. This can be downloaded HERE. It is possible to switch back and forth between firmware version containing different DRM protection systems.

The 'HERE' is a link to an rar of the Mobi-DRM firmware from February. Bookeen did not invent this idea and are almost eight months later implementing it.

Am I misinformed that the two new Bookeen firmwares are not yet available on the Internet?

I wouldn't have bought my Cybook Gen3 had I known I had to ship it to get a firmware update (this requirement been stated elsewhere in this thread), especially since BeBook has had two such firmwares since February, before I unwisely spent my £240 with VAT.

If I lived in Paris and could walk into the Bookeen office and get a factory reflash like Godzil, I might not mind so much. Is that clear?

This reflash with a beta version was offered at a meeting with some of MobileRead members in July (meeting previously scheduled before this offer), and that's all !
Personally, I couldn't go, so I'm waiting like many others here...

Beta than nothing (for those that could go)

Anyway, why wouldn't Bookeen take a walk-in delivery rather than a shipment? If not, all the more reason to abandon ship, in my view.

HarryT stated in a thread that he was offered to send in the Cybook to get en upgrade. That is unfortunately very expensive to do from other countries if you want to have a reasonable insurance. If you live near Bookeen I suppose you can just go to them and deliver the Cybook.

Personally, as I don't think stamping my feet like a child would do the trick, I suffer "silently" !

You do misunderstand, if you think you describe my thoughts.

I've already downloaded the BeBook firmwares in anticipation of a purchase. Look at the matrix, if you don't think they are similar value for money.

The only thing stopping me now is the minor hassle of the new purchase, followed by my auction on eBay, and the tiny probability that neither of the following is true:

• Bookeen have a serious problem either with hardware or mask ROM that prevents a reflash of some part of the new firmware from the SD card, although not from the factory procedure, which probably uses a JTAG interface,
• Bookeen have a serious problem with their priorities which is likely affecting the business generally. Deafening silence from a business is often an indication of internal crisis, so I wouldn't be surprised if we hear of some financial difficulty down the road.
