how to have fun with copyright infringment:

I hesitate a bit between and but isn't that funny to see how some "manufacturer" are playing with copyright like it never existed? We might all know that the Cybook Gen 3 design has been seen on other product like eSlick, elonex, and so on but here and here I think it's getting more and more funny. Having a product and not being able to take pictures of it, or at least to make a good photoshop work. If you find other good stuff like a comparison between Cool-er and ipod, please add the link! There is a big difference between copyright infringement and an OEM customizing a product for several resellers. AFAIK, your Cybook Gen3 started life as a Netronix EB600, just like my ESlick EB100 did. Each of the resellers knows that others are selling the same product, sometimes in the same market. The OEM created the design, sometimes with the help of a reseller. Actually a lot of OEMs just take the chipmakers evaluation board and modify it slightly. But I'm pretty sure all that activity is licensed - for a fee.

I am totatly ok with you, what i mean is that its the cybook Gen3 as EB600 that was the first to have that look with the square pad instead of the circle and the grey line on instead of nothing. for the picture: come on its unbelievable that the take those of the Gen3 from Bookeen and remove the logo Cybook and Bookeen with such a bad photoshop. I mean: we can still see the Cybook logo under the hand! Come on! Who are they to be so bad? |

PHOTOSHOP???? I did a better job in Gimp just now in under three minutes, and I'm not good by the most generous stretch of the imagination. This is more like Microsoft Paint!! Define a marquee, fill with a greyish colour.. Job done. At least I cloned the colours of the panel from several places. But in fairness, it was only to get an idea of how quickly I could do better. They may as well have taken a picture of it with a strip of electrical tape over the logo. |

Assuming it was used without authorization. As someone else pointed out, some devices are re-branded and sold under a few different names. If the OEM sent out stock photos to all the different companies, then it wouldn't be a copyright problem.

The hardware OEM has rights to the design, but not the trademarks that are put on the devices. Not that it matters much, Isn't this just a shop? So basically, anything from one guy working as a sole trader to a few dozen people with more office workers than techies. I'm guessing they need a picture, so they got the one closest to what they are selling, hacked it about a bit, and bunged it on the site with no permission either way. Perhaps someone should let Bookeen know. | |
