For seeing the Bookeen's people looking at it, it seems it's not as easy as you think, and maybe YOU know how to read the serial number, but I think that a lot of people aren't enough technophile to be able to give the correct serial number.

It usually comes right after "Serial No." in form of successive numbers ranging from 0-9. What's so tecnophile about being able to read and retype that string when being asked for it?

Ho yes, Serial No. on some of the two stickers devices. On the last RendezVous Mobileread I'd speak with bookeen's people about this. They sayd me that this sticker merely have nothing in common with the real device serial number.

Now, what is the serial number ?
ED060KB2 ?
M060-Z07AE003(P12) ?
E0H00312HA000157AZ ?

No, it is addition of essential functionality (folders) to make the device useful. I have stopped using my Gen 3 since I got so irritated by the navigation and lack of page numbers.

"Serial No." has nothing to do with serial number? I rest my case

If that's the way Bookeen is handling the serial numbers of their devices I won't dare to argue about the firmware delay any more. Just light up a candle in a church nearby and pray ...

Oh, come on... this has been done before...

- Show a picture where to find the right serial number.
- Let the user enter the serial number.
- Give the appropriate download link + instructions how to install.
(If you don't want to give a link on the page, send the download link via email.)

Easy as 1, 2, 3...

Lexmark let me turn around my ink printer while calling, Fritz let me switch off my router and T-Mobile once seriously asked me to turn off my mobile phone to take out my sim card to get the serial number - while talking to them via mobile phone ...

Customers are a hardened tribe, Godzil. To choose between three numbers compared to those examples listed really is like child's play.

You remember that old saw, that if you had an infinite number of monkeys typing randomly on typewriters (that's how old it is) that you would eventually get a brilliant literary masterpiece?

Well if we all post enough stuff, then maybe we can take random samples of the posts and try to compile and run them on the hardware. Eventually, random chance could give us something that could execute and run. Here is my contribution:
