press in and hold the reset button. while the reset is being pressed, cycle the power switch 5 times.
hadn't. Did now.. nada I guess I'll have to call after my 8:00 meeting.

Well, it turned out my issue was low power. Battery indicator had shown full, but it wasn't. Put it on charge and after about 2 minutes it rebooted, and then indicated connected and charging. Full charge and all is well. The guy at Sony support (online chat) said that happens sometimes.

My beautiful silver 600 froze yesterday for the first time. I was just reading and the page wouldn't turn. Reading a book I purchased from Sony and loaded via the eBook Library (3.0). Wouldn't do anything. I hooked it up to my laptop, hoping to get to the User's Guide. The Reader showed it was connected. The laptop said connected device had a problem and wouldn't work. So I unplugged the USB and voila! . . . it has worked fine ever since (a full day, lol! ).
Dunno what happened or why, but as long as it comes back to me I am a happy camper!

This may sound kinda retarded, but when I first got my 600, I thought it was locking up too. It turned out I was just loading massive PDF files and I needed to give it a little time to load. Since I learned to be patient, I have experienced zero lockups (which is why I think it was just me being crazy, and not real lockups) ;p

Freezing PSR 600

Same problem for me: Reader (one week old) seems dead, displays the homepage, touchscreen is not responding. Usb-connection doesn't make it appear on the desktop.
These strange things started happening after I installed Adobe Digital Editions to be able to import some books I bought.
Help anyone ?

:-(

Hi edelting! I have Adobe Digital Editions installed and everything is working fine. I had installed ADE and downloaded a trial book before I got my Reader, but that shouldn't matter. Have you tried the tips above? (Leaving it plugged in in case it's the battery, holding the reset button and cycling power 5 times, and contacting Sony Support.)
I hope you'll have good news to report soon!!

Justice Strike, was yours truly dead? ;/

We gave my cousin a red PRS-600 on Sunday for her birthday. I had it for a week and loaded a bunch of books to her reader. Made collections for all her books. I loaded about 180 books to her reader and that don't include the Harlequin Present monthly bundles which have 8 books per bundle and I gave her Nov 2008 to Sept 2009. She just called me all frustrated because her reader locked-up in the middle of reading a book. I had her plug it to her computer but it was not recognized. After 10 minutes, I had her hit reset while it was still plug in, and slide the power button 2 quick times and then it came to life. When it came on, she only had 1 bar of power, even though, I fully charged it on Sunday before we gave it to her. She's at Gamestop right now buying a PSP charger. So hopefully that will solve the issue. I'll be sad if it's a recurring problem after thinking we gave her the perfect gift. Now I'm all nervous and thinking I should have given her a Kindle 2!

Mine locked up again today so that makes 2 for me, again it happened while moving from one train to another (flick slide, and put reader in bag, walk to the other train station, get on other train, reader won't respond).

Solving the lock-up was a simple application of stylus to reset button.

So that makes 2 for me.

My PRS-505 has never locked-up, not even once and I had it since December 2008. I've always charged it using the PSP adapter. I'm hoping the PSP charger will solve my cousins 600 lock-up problem. I will return it if it lock-up even 1 more time and I don't mean exchange. Once was enough.

My PRS505 has "locked up" a few times on my over the year and a half I've owned it. Once or twice I couldn't find the reason for it, but as Riacoz said, a simple reset did the trick. The other times I was able to isolate it to a book I was reading. Some minor corruption in the file or something. So, deleting the book and reconverting it seemed to solve the problem.

I think returning it for just two lock-ups might be a little extreme. I'd first try to make sure it wasn't related to a certain book or some corruption in the data files on the device.

It's been in different books.

In fact this time it reverted to a book I finished several days ago. Which was annoying.
