If you are basing this on the first post, then we could have most posts on MR in here. I do think that this is not what this section was for. I believe that the commentary is commentary on something that is newsworthy.

Jon, the thread is not called "commentary on news", it is called "news and commentary". You are disrupting the thread.

But Jon, is it really so important? The sheer joy the op managed to convey is worth the slight error.

I have The Lost Symbol on reserve from my local library. Just need to read the other two books first. And congrats to the OP for being #1 on The Lost Symbol library download at his local library. |

I think I'm also able to lend books via Elib through my library. I assume they have made an agreement. I found teh link on the libraries web site a while ago, but none of teh librarians I've asked about knew anything And then the link was removed but I can still log in - but the selection is so small that, well....

Astrid Lindgren and Selma Lagerlöf were two of my most favourite writers when I was young. (already found Nils Holgersson) Last edited by Sweetpea; 09-17-2009 at 02:09 PM.

I wouldn't worry too much about the budget cuts - I'm in Chicago, and while they did get rid of someone in the ebook section, this month (one month later) there are more new ebooks than ever. I check them out at work, and then download them to my computer at home. The only thing I miss is riding my bike to the local library - but they don't even have ebooks! I found Chicago Public Library by looking for reciprocal libraries. It was a little round about, but I would encourage everyone who is not in a big city or whose local library does not carry ebooks, to check out whether it is in such a reciprocal program. I have to pay $3 for a library card at my local library (plus the property taxes), but my CPL card is free. And that is all I use now!

In my first years as a reader, Astrid Lindgren was almost all I read. Not Selma Lagerlöf though, but then I've never thought of her as a children's author. I have the feeling I sort of ought to have read "Nils Holgerson's journey" - it's one my parent's generation know very well, but it's not especially considered a children's book here. Sweetpea, where did you find it?
