if a spreadsheet is what you make in excel, then yes, exactly. and "soul-destroying" is just the word i would use to describe it. actually i think i'm about to give up for the day, i'm tired and my head hurts. hopefully tomorrow i'll be able to zip through the rest of it.

Yes, Excel!!! My mortal enemy. I hate that program with a passion that is unequalled. It's like the program that the most boring person in the world would make to torture anyone who wasn't boring. Columns and numbers and maths all rolled into a dull, greyish soup of meaningless... argghhh!!!! Business people love it, and they love those graphs it makes and pie charts and everything else I swore to battle against in my life

god yes, i couldn't have said it better.

luckily i do have a retro-planning made by an actual project manager from a previous project, i'm trying to just adapt it to this new project, but it's not really a good fit, since there was a lot of developpement on that project (none on this one), the timeline is different, there were more people working on that one (this one is just me and the client), i'm working on several projects at the same time right now so i have to try to take that into account as well for this retro-planning... oh god, it's just a nightmare.

I agree. And if there's one thing worse than an Excel spreadsheet, then it's an Excel Spreadsheet in Welsh.

i guess i should count my blessings, at least this retro-planning is not in welsh.

it could be worse ! thanks patricia for putting things into perspective for me.

of course, i suspect that whatever the language, if your brain is not wired for rigidly linear, completely non-organic structured planning, you're cooked.

I'd probably go 'mental'

I'm not a planner by nature, any hint of organisation and I go a bit "doo-lalley"

"doo-lalley" is a pretty good description of how i'm starting to feel about the whole thing, yes.

i'm obliged to be somewhat organised, but i tend to prefer a more fluid and organic approach to things, doing what i feel like when i feel like it, or based on what is "ready" to be done, as long as it all gets done, rather than planning things out down to the day... especially since clients are notoriously unreliable when it comes to respecting deadlines (which is ironic, considering how furious they get when you miss one...).
