All sugars are bad, any one of them. If they say honey is good they're wrong. it's just not as worse. Glucids are the worst cause of health problems associated with foods. They put it everywhere... even in meat! Deserts made of pure fruit are healthy. And remember, people tend to abuse of things they like, that is not healthy. |

Nothing wrong with sugars, it is overdoing it that is bad. I do agree that sugar gets chucked into nearly every processed food, which is idiotic. Last edited by acidzebra; 09-04-2009 at 06:10 AM.

Oi! Leave the desserts alone! Let me have SOMETHING unhealthy, ok? Sheesh... isn't it enough that wifey tries to make me eat healthier food. Now you are trying to take all the fun out of desserts as well! |

I have no problems with sugars or "unhealthy" desserts; I absolutely love chocolate. I just have a problem with the portion size, which seems to have doubled or even tripled in the US from what it was not too long ago and it is going the same route in Europe lately. This is not just for desserts, this goes for EVERYTHING. Drinks, meals, snacks, the lot. Check out these stories about portion size. [1, 2, 3,4] I have this "1960 vs 2000 portion difference" link somewhere, I just can't seem to find it. it was quite shocking. *goes off to rummage*

2 bowls of lentils, split peas and rice... 10 jellybeans and a few squares of dark choc Nom nom. Frankly, what I find scary is that we in western rich countries spend so much time eating and get so little nutrition out of our food.

And sugar isn't bad. It's the amount of sugar that is consumed that is not good.

It's kinda like comparing almond essence with almonds, or whey powder with whole milk. White sugar is so processed, and the molecule chain so much shorter (that right, people who've studied chem less than 15 years ago?) that it's in the same group (sugars) but quite a lot different in its nutritional effects.

Typical honey analysis * Fructose: 38.5% * Glucose: 31.0% * Sucrose: 1.0% * Water: 17.0% * Other sugars: 9.0% (maltose, melezitose) * Ash: 0.17% * Other: 3.38% But hey, whatever floats your boat. I think sucrose is unfairly "criminalized" Last edited by acidzebra; 09-04-2009 at 07:44 AM.
