				Great Point and Good Tips!

Hadrien made excellent points, and thanks for the tip on the free eBooks. The sister-site of my eBookstore is an Indy eBookstore, www.DPPstore.com, fueled by the independent spirit and a do-it your own way mentality. All of their PDF's are readable on the Sony eInk devices. They are protected but not DRM'ed and they also have a very nice selection of FREE eBooks... Also on the free and public domain tip: don't forget Project Guttenberg - Huge selection if difficult to navigate, offering many formats! But if you are looking for non-public domain titles, such as new releases from big publishers, www.eBooksAboutEverything.com is still running 10% off storewide Enter coupon code: 0202402 Quote:

Katrina! Was that picture taken at the last Harry Potter unveiling or is it your usual getup? |

So as a new iLiad user, how will I know what e-books are readable on my device? I see a lot of comments about books not readable with the iLiad. Whats that all about? Thanks Jim |

Well, I don't think any online store has in any way "cracked it" as far as creating a decent shopping/browsing experience. There's a rather large amount of online bookstores out there, and very little to distinguish them. Cost is directly comparible, there's no delivery fees so there's little to separate shops. Geographic location makes no difference either, my native language is English, but I don't complain too much about American English books. As well as that the urge to pay for books I would expect, along with MP3s isn't strong, so to beat piracy then like MP3s the retailer has to make it easier and more pleasant to buy books for a painless price than "steal" them. As to how you could distinguish yourself... I guess the only thing I can think of is some kind of flash application where you can "see" a bookshelf, and see the spines of the books (at a readable resolution). It would have to be mostly preloaded or at least loading the next shelves in the background so that it's fast. Use the mouse to "grab" a book out and see the cover, and the back cover for the standard blurb about it, and price. I dunno if that'd be possible, or if it'd work, but frankly browsing online bookstores is crap compared to wandering around in a real shop. |

I never bother with the library because I'm so dreadful about remembering to return my books Because I got out of the habit, it never occured to me to use it as a way to scout for new books - and the cool thing about the library is that the staff don't get mad at you for staying for hours, reading bits of the stock and then leaving without buying anything |

Katrina, I can't see contact info on the website, and that makes it hard to report problems. Specifically, when I switched from $US to $AUS using the currency dropdown I got "500 Can't connect to services.xmethods.net:80 (Bad hostname 'services.xmethods.net') at /home/shared/ebooksabouteverything/soap.lib line 9 For help, please send mail to the webmaster (webmaster@make-a-store.com), giving this error message and the time and date of the error. " I'm not inclined to report a problem with your store to some unrelated email address. But apart from that... I actually want to buy some books Edit: and the coupon code has expired Last edited by moz; 03-15-2008 at 07:29 PM. |
