Oh sure. This is payback isn't? Now I'll be thinking about adding Eggos to the shopping list. An acquired taste I suspect. Last edited by NormHart; 08-19-2009 at 12:18 AM. Reason: Arrrg, brownies!!! |

Tonight: pancakes, with cheese and bacon, apple and raisins and maybe a plain one with syrup! It'll be the first time we'll be trying to bake them on an open fire though... So, we'll have to see how it goes

An I suddenly got a craving for some of that pie wifey did last friday. Filled with chanterelle's and "västerbottens ost" which is a really good brand of swedish cheese. Yummy yum yum... washed down with a Chilean shiraz. Oh god, now I'm hungry and it's likte three hours to lunch time... |

Pineapple rings dipped in (fish) batter and deep fried. These used to cost me 20p a ring from the local Chippy. Almost became part of my staple diet! I never was keen on the Banana Fritters though! Now, how can I replicate this at home without a)using too much oil, b)ruining a saucepan and c)without the wife knowing! It is a very rare occurrence to fry anything in our house let alone deep fry it (never done that!) |

Black Pepper Brownies These sound so intriguing that I may have to make some (just need to get pretty much all the ingredients and avoid telling the wife I am putting pepper into a cake!) |

And for some reason this reminded me of Bacon Grill. I used to love that tinned goodiness (we used to get it in ration packs when I was in the Cadets). I recently found a tin in the local pound shop but the wife wouldn't let me buy it because it contains mechanically recovered meat! It was 3 for a pound as well.... Ah well I can just dream. And I must stop reading this thread - it is making me want more and more things I just can't have! |

We learned two things: 1: put some oil on first, otherwise it won't even look like pancake (but it will taste like one) and 2: make sure the fire isn't too hot, the bottom will almost burnt before the top has dried enough to turn the pancake around. Filled pancakes work the best: first layer rather thick, put the cheese and bacon on (one advantage of having a large baking area is you can pre-bake the bacon while baking the pancake) and top it off with some more batter. Then turn it around and put some colour on the top layer. Yummie! Pictures when I can get them off my card... |
