Apple always releases two models of everything. Their real goal is to wet the appetite with the cheap one, then convince you that the extra features of the expensive one are worth the extra money.

It’s all marketing.

This plan just sounds idiotic though. The larger device runs a full-blown version of OS X, while the smaller one runs the iPhone OS? I don't see them doing that. It goes against the entire "simplicity rules" mindset.

I can see them doing a tablet running full OSX, their customers have been asking for one for years (especially if uses wacom tech) A simple touch screen tablet, not so much. Most of the people who want a mac tablet, are artists, and a simple touch screen doesnt make the grade for them. A larger tablet might eat into the sales of their other devices. Typically their sales model have been bring people in with the consumer electronics, and hope to convert to use their computers as well, much like they've done with enticing people with great software.

I agree that there is, and has long been, demand for an official Apple tablet (I'd also like to know what the sales figures are for the Axiotron Modbook). But I think if they do end up going the dual machine route, they wouldn't put the two in the same product line.

The IthingOS is OSX. The major difference is the CPU. The Ithing has an ARM CPU, OSX runs on x86.

While the underlying cores of both OS's are the same (the Darwin kernel), don't they have fairly different APIs and higher level components?

Developing for the iPhone or iPod Touch is done using XCode and Objective-C --- the only thing that's markedly different is the specific UI objects.

Yeah, there are major differences in the APIs. Even the core has some fairly big changes.

That's saying the V3 and my linux Desktop is the same, since both can be developed for using GCC and C.

iPhone users might want a larger screen device that will run all the apps they have. I can see that. Of course the apps may not run on a different screen size.

The underlying core of all things Apple is Unix.

That seems too.... different for Apple. I have a hard time imagining them creating two devices so similar yet so different. It just seems weird for some reason.
