In San Antonio, I could recommend certain areas near USAA - little pocket bungalow neighborhoods (a ladyfriend of mine lived in one for years). Just trying to be helpful...

Yes, that area near USAA is very nice. The lawns are all quite mature and the houses are not cookie cutter.

I like cupboards. Rooms are good. Cupboards in rooms work too. Built-in wardrobes are only good if they're well thought out, but on the other hand it's a pain trying to buy decent, solid bedroom furniture for a flat.
Cats do seem to need rooms to themselves. Whether it's for swinging or not, I don't know.
