Maybe it's just the kind of books I tend to buy (a lot of back list science fiction, fantasy and mystery series) but I find I buy more at Fictionwise than anywhere else, followed by Amazon. I've bought a few books at BoB, but I almost always find them more expensive than the alternatives. I haven't found BoB to have a better selection for what I am buying at least. Generally if I am willing to wait for a sale I buy at FW. If not Amazon usually has the best non-sale price. I've almost stopped looking at BoB. I don't like their site navigation and their sales usually don't amount to much since they are usually only 20-25% off list prices. I'm curious, what kinds of books does BoB generally have the best prices on? |

I have been thinking about this as well - even though my membership doesn;t expire until December. I am quite happy with FW and their prices. However, the Barnes and Noble merger scares me and how the future of the program/site will be ran. Stacy |

Just to clarify, Amazon only allows Kindle owners to buy ebooks. So as a Sony owner, you would not be able to purchase ebooks from Amazon unless you also owned a Kindle that was registered to your Amazon account.

i love my fictionwise membership. i put a list of books in my cart, then wait to the next 25% or better sale and go for it. then i have enough in my micropay account to pick up any books i want till the next sale. btw, i read mobipocket and the last 2 books i wanted weren't available at BoB in mobi - only other formats. |

I can't say that I think much of any of the ebookshop sites. Mostly they are very clunky and irritating.

I've been pondering this question myself, as I've traditionally used Fictionwise. However, has anyone noticed that they no longer seem to be doing a blanket % off of all titles and are now offering deals on specific authors only? Like the current 100% off of Dan Brown titles and the 35% off of an authors backlist when they have a book up for 100% rebate? This seems to have occurred since the B&N acquisition. |

They've done a couple of genre-specific sales lately. I think they're just rotating the various types of sales a lot more - in the past couple of months I've seen author, genre, wishlist, and series completion micropays, and one 15% coupon back in June that was separate from micropay (and my current favorite, since the 'all books' which plumped up my micropay account a lot in June.)

I'll be letting my Fictionwise membership lapse - I don't use it enough and it's overly complicated imho. I prefer to pay the extra and simplify my life if I'm buying from them in future.

Lately, it seems like it's taking Fictionwise longer and longer to get new releases. If it's a big name, they'll have it right away. Otherwise, you might be waiting a week or two before they'll have the book you're looking for. And even then, it probably won't be in the format you want. It seems to me they're leaving MS Lit in the dust in favor of eReader, which I can't stand. The formatting is impossible and the end result (after decryption, etc) is difficult to read on my Sony. My membership is up in January and it's going to be a tough call. If they offer another 100% Rebate like they did last year, I'll do it. Otherwise, I just don't know. BoB isn't perfect, but at least they're better at getting new releases out on the release date. |
