But I've never bought from Fictionwise before. How does it work? If you pay $64.96 for all 4 books in the Twilight series, do you get $64.96 in Micropay credits that can be used to buy other ebooks? I don't suppose you can receive the rebate amount immediately and apply it to this same transaction so that there's no charge for the purchase?

I might, I might not. If I absolutely run out of books to read, maybe I will (I don't quite see that happening, though). Bought them anyhow. Been meaning to get the MicroPay credit either way. At least with this promo, I get something for free.

Yep, you get $64.96 in MicroPay credits. No, you can't use it for the same books. The whole point of the promo is so you'll spend money out of pocket. The "free" part is mostly psychological. It's a pretty steep discount, though (at least 50% after you've used the MicroPay credits to buy other ebooks).

No but you can essentially buy half of the books then apply the credit to the other have to get your 50% off.

What I usually do if it's a 100% discount, and I do want all the books, I'll pay the full amount. Then as sales trough out the year arise I'll pick off some books I want it's typical for FW to put Fantasy, SF, Romance, Business, etc... on sale for 25%-30% off. When the sales are 30% or lower you can usually apply your micro-rebate cash. So effectively you are buying books at 75-80% off but it takes patience.

No, but you could buy half the books and then use the micropay for the other half.

You should think of 100% micropay rebate as "buy one get one free". It's just that you can choose when to get the free book.

Exactly. Including any book that has it's own rebate, with one restriction: if the books purchased with micropay have a 35% or higher rebate, you don't get any rebate at all on those titles (ie, can't use micropay to buy more 100% rebate books, recycling the money endlessly into new titles). If the rebate is 30% or less, you do get the discount, even paying with micropay. DRM free titles are discounted off the list price during sales, no rebates, so you always get the discount, no matter what the payment method is (and all magazines are in the DRM free section).

It's immediate - but as a credit to your account, after your credit card is charged. You could, if you think you'll never use the company again, ask to close your account and have a refund check/credit card charge issued (it says so in their help). But, you can also leave it there and use it later on other books during one of their sales.

Yes, Micropay and rewards are similar incentive schemes.

as for the 31% to 34%, I don't think I've every seen that, but bear in mind that those are guidelines - check each offer - fictionwise could have a 50% rebate even on micropay transactions or a 20% rebate that only applied to CC transactions if they wanted.

Fictionwise has various cumulative discounts/rebates.

First there's club membership. You pay for membership (although they occasionally have 100% rebate on the membership fee) and then get 15% off all books.

Next there's special book or author rebates. Usually between 10% and 35%, but sometimes 50% or 100%.

Finally, there's the eReader 5% rebate. I don't like the eReader format, so I skip this.

Note that each rebate get applied to the price after the previous rebate. So the 15% membership rebate plus a 20% rebate plus the 5% eReader rebate doesn't add up to 40% rebate, but 1-(0.85*0.8*0.95) = 35.4%

I would suggest getting the Twilight series in MS Reader or Mobipocket format, stripping the DRM, and then converting to LRF using Calibre.

I won't pay over $10 for any eBook and usually not over $5 unless it's an author I already know I like, so would normally skip a series like this. However, with %100 rebate it's a little more attractive, as I know the micropay will eventually be used up on buying < $10 books that I'd have bought anyway.

Hopefully the rebates will crop up on the other book I wouldn't mind reading but refuse to pay more than $10 for.

Still, I guess it's a good thing, otherwise I'd spend way too much on books and never find time to read them all, struggling as it is
