That error indicates the python you are using to run setup.py is python 2.4

I thought I'd downloaded and installed python 2.6.1 (or possibly .2, I can't remember) earlier on this evening.

Obviously not - back to the drawing board...

can't install calibre 0.6.5 to mac osx 10.5.8 app won't launch get force quit!
