Sorry for delay and not posting the URL to the original thread. Today is "Meet the teachers" night for my kids at school and we just got back.

Here is the URL:

http://www.amazon.com/tag/kindle/for...x1FXQPSF67X1IU

If you look at the thread, it has the "official" Amazon "Announcement" indicator.

Plus, if you "click through" the poster's profile, you get the following:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile...f=cm_cd_et_pdp

which would appear to be "THE" Jeff Bezos profile (complete with the real name tag).

Cheers...

Kind Sir, Monsieur, or Señor!

I have stood by too long observing you make witty jokes on the internet instead of getting out there and being British, or French, or at the very least Spanish and solving intriguing mysteries with your pipe in hand and/or mouth!

I do not ask, I demand!, that you immediately adjust your public behavior to match my shallow and ill-conceived preconceptions!

I'm not sure if you were joking here but...

what I meant was that rather than allowing anyone to just post anything they want for sale, they need to have some checks and balances to ensure that it is permissible for sale in the US. For example, you wouldn't allow someone to start an Amazon storefront selling Oxycontin.

Even in the US, there are lots of things that it isn't legal to sell because it is controlled for whatever reason -- copyrighted material, for example.

Oh, dear God, yes I was joking!

It is both frightening and, alas, understandable that you were not sure. Sorry.

Yes, you are obviously right... utterly obviously, as far as I am concerned.

This is interesting considering it was first called a "glitch." Now it was intentional.

Filing this in the "unbelievable" file.

Ahh, so is that all you do all day long? Just Observing? Good! Right-Ho! I have a job for ye up in the Crow's Nest!

Ah yes. The infamous "pre-conceived illconceptions". You know how often a tasty little strumpet has ever spoken those exact same words to me? Not near often enough, I can tell you.

As for public behavior. All of my behaviour is public. I stand behind every word I've never spoken. "May I live a thousand years, and never sail again." (that was paraphrased)

Why don't you go monkey up there to the Nest and start "observing".

I didn't take his post to specifically mean it wasn't a glitch but it did seem to skirt the issue on that front.

They lied, they unilaterally reneged on long ago completed sales, and they violated their customers' private property... and, as many cooler heads have pointed out time and again, they were legally and morally right and justified every step of the way.

It's a pity Amazon itself cannot see that and feels their customer's property rights ought to be respected.

There is a curious lack of participation in this thread by the anti-copyright infringement crowd. It's a shame I practically had to do the denouncing all by myself.

I just booted up my PC and read this entire thread - and was laughing so hard by the end of it I almost squirted coffee out of my nose! Thanks guys for having (and sharing) a sense of humor! This thread is a welcome end (I hope) to all of the screaming & gnashing of teeth posts of the past week (and yes - I lost my copy off my Kindle too). A little perspective (and levity) can only elevate a conversation.

It's definitely nice to see them apologize and indicate that they will change their policy so that they are doing the "right" thing. I'm just not willing to completely forgive them that easily. It's concerning that their policy was so wrong in the first place.
