Nate,
Thanks for all the info. I just ordered mine yesterday, so I can't wait to get it. I couldn't help but notice the firefox 3 package on your desktop in the screenies you posted. Have you got that working yet? I can't wait to tinker with this thing! ![]() |

One worked okay with fingers, but it lacks needed punctuation marks. At some point we'll have to find a replacement. |

Has anyone noticed that the clock is exceptionally unreliable? It can gain or lose 20 minutes in less than a day.

I just looked at my clock and it was off. I went to reset the time and noticed there is a "sync with server" option. I chose that this time. Maybe that will keep the time from changing.

tar.gz is essentially a zip file, they are almost always source code that needs to be compiled when talking about applications. Much better to try and find a deb, although I imagine firefox would be pretty slow on the q7.

There is a deb, but it's for x86 ubuntu. Never mind, I went looking for instructions. Last edited by Nate the great; 06-18-2009 at 11:03 PM. |

The linux standard is
./configure make makeinstall But you will need all the build dependencies and compilers installed as well. There was a firefox 2 deb in the repository coldsun linked to in his guide in this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49234 but no firefox 3 one as far as I could tell, presumably it didn't build. f2 is here: http://repository.handhelds.org/hast...-mojo1_arm.deb Hopefully mp4nation come through with the q7 I ordered a day or two ago and I can try some of this stuff myself. |

Coolness. Is the size and shape of the Q7 good for using the screen keyboard as a thumb keyboard that you can hold and type on, or do you need to set it down to type on it?

I've had a bunch of devices, and one thing I've figured out is how to evaluate a device as an ebook reader. You don't read just any book. Instead you read a book that you've been dying to get to so that any dissatisfaction you encounter will be caused by the device, not the content. Last night I started reading my Oz Omnibus, and I'm really enjoying the experience. This is a very good ebook reader.
I've also been playing with the web browser. I just added my GMail account. I wouldn't want to do any serious amount of work without a keyboard, but it's quite usable. I also have Weather.com, MobileRead, and a bunch of free ebook sites bookmarked. Chippy was right when he said this was a pretty good device for browsing from your couch. |

I've found that it's fastest to hold the Q7 in one hand and use the stylus to type. |
