Problem in case of update?

Could there be a problem having the Bionic ipdf as reader, when a new update from Irex is installed? Quote:

 Problems installing ipdf4 or ipdf5

Hi! I just upgraded to 2.7.1 (from irex) and the upgrade went well until the restart phase: it restarted, the progress bar when booting went all the way, but it wouldnt show the menu, and the light was on (not blinking) all the time; I waited a couple of minutes, then i bit the bullet and did a reset; This time it booted correctly, and i checked if 2.71. was installed(it was) Then I followed yokos detailed instructions, but wehn clicking of the 'Do you want to install ipdf 5' the led blinked ONCE and that was all. Nothing happened. I tried the same with ipdf4 and the same thing: nothing; Any ideas what might be wrong? The files (ipdf4&5) show up in the newspaper folder but nothing happens when i click them; |

You need to get the shell extension from iRex after the upgrade: http://www.irextechnologies.com/node/45 |

@Yokos: I DID make an update from 2.7.0 to 2.7.1; I did this AFTER i received the response for my request for the shell ...thingy. I did the update to 2.7.1(and i had a small glitch while updating) the i connected AGAIN to the iDS just to make sure i didnt miss anything. There was nothing else to update. I'll try connecting to the iDS once again this afternoon, maybe theres something else there that it wasnt before; Is it possible for the ipdf(installation) file to show up on the iliad without the shell hack installed(just the 2.7.1)? |

@vranghel: If you got the 2.7.1 update after you requested the shell patch, the it probably will not have worked. Try requesting it again. And we will probably have to ask for it again, after 2.8 is installed. And yes, the scripts will show up anyway. Just nothing really happens, when you click on them. |

1) User has ipdf(2.7.1.) 2) User starts bionic installer. 2a) backup of ipdf(2.7.1) is made 2b) ipdf(bionic) is installed 3) User upgrades to 2.8 3a) ipdf(bionic) is overwritten with ipdf(2.8) == Everything's peachy so far. 4) User starts revert-to-original-option of bionic installer 4a) backup of ipdf(2.7.1) is written over ipdf(2.8) == Somebody's crying. Since I had no sleep tonight so my deepest apologies if I'm completely off with this scenario.

 Danger Will Robinson !

If you updated to a future ipdf, please make absolutely sure not to revert to the original ipdf(2.7.1). But we have /usr/bin/md5sum on the device, so it should be not difficult to educate the script to have a list of md5-checksums of the known bionic ipdf applications and to check whether the installed ipdf is still a bionic one ore somethin else. (Again: I'm tired and may be completely wrong |

k2r, script uses the file with name "backup" [a back-up of ipdf2.7.1], which is included in zip-file, when you click on "Do you want to reinstall ..." it gets cp to /usr/bin/ipdf. When 2.8 is out we will update the file "backup" with ipdf2.8. When OS 2.7.1 isn't compatible with ipdf2.8, script will have a if-then-else routine. Right now a if-then-else handles where the path of pdf viewer lies. Content of note-to-myself.txt [included in zip-file] Quote:

I'm just paranoid when it comes to overwriting updated files with older stuff :-) Last edited by k2r; 11-23-2006 at 06:43 PM.
